We tried this restaurant based on the reviews already posted on menupages and yelp. We went, not expecting to enjoy it as much as we did - reviews are not always accurate. As we approached the restaurant, it looked very average from the outside, just one of many Indian restaurants on the same block. But once inside, you feel as if you are in some special secret hideaway in India or on Brick Lane in London. It was a fun experience. The waiters are attentive and the service is tailored to make the customer happy. We ordered our food -- I asked for something that wasn't really on the menu. Without hesitation, the restaurant said they would happily make the dish that I requested. Before we ordered, we received a plate of chapati and three dips - mint chutney, onion and tomato and tamarind - all yum! The food arrived - veggie samosas, veggie Korma and aloo gobi tikki masala (my creation). It all tasted authentic, flavorful and not greasy at all! Each dish came in a copper pot accompanied by a shared plate of basmati. We loved every bite!! We didn't order dessert, but we received individual scoops of icecream with the check. It was a very nice touch. I had two small complaints: (1) the music, a repetitive sitar, became a bit monotonous and annoying; (2) we had to pay for mango chutney (but, it was homemade and tasted incredible). I would 100% go back!

This is one of those 4 places with a ton of xmas lights in the window. But Mitali (on the upper left side of the 4) is the one to go to!!! Why? You ARE the Xmas Tree! This place has a totally electric atmosphere - and not just because there are 5,000 lights and shiny baubles hanging absolutely everywhere. Indian Techno Music. Birthday? Special Indian Techno Music Birthday Song with the entire restaurant singing and clapping. BYOB. And I'm Vegan - but I make an exception for this place and go vegetarian (there's got to be ghee in absolutely everything here - it's so yummy!). Terrific attentive service. When I order something to go they make me sit at a nice table and drink sweet tea. Very thoughtful.

Mitali is on Indian "restaurant row" in the East Village. We had a great meal there. Vegetable samosa (app), do-piaz chicken, chicken tikka musalam, kati chicken and onion and garlic naan - all very, very good. The restaurant is a little dark and they start to play Indian music a bit too loud at around 8pm, but.....it was a delicious meal. The service was also very good.

My vegetarian dish was fantastic. The beef was just eh. Service was great though and loved all the little extras.

Quite simply the best Indian food that we have eaten in years, including dinners taken at Brick Ln, London, The Midlands and North (ie Birmingham and Leeds) and of course the glorious land of India itself. Magnificent. We had the Chicken Madras, Vindaloo and Rogan Josh, each of them distinguisable by their own delicate spices and each was a treat to the mouth! Naan bread was a little dry but nothing that cannot be solved! For all you Europeans looking for GREAT Indian food in NY, this is THE place to come to. Enjoy xxx

Of all the Indian restaurants in the area (and I've been to all of them several times), Mitali is by far the best. Everything is top notch here - food, service, ambiance. I can't vouch for the quality of the delivery service, as I only come here to eat. The food here is authentic and is consistently good. I've never had a bad experience here, other than the day I came and they were closed for renovations.
