From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you get a relaxed vibe from the decor to the other patrons enjoying their meals. This place always has families or groups of friends enjoying the good company and good food. I'm especially a fan of the fried chicken which is a perfect combination of crispness on the outside and moist flavorful meat on the inside. The greens are tasty and not too salty like in some other places and the mac and cheese is a must. My husband is a fan of the barbeque chicken and meatloaf. You also can't leave without trying the banana pudding. Service is friendly but can be a little faster. However, this restaurant is a real treasure in the ever gentrifying Morningside Heights neighborhood.

I felt the prices were too high... the quality of food was not that good and the amount they give you isn't as much as I wanted..

I've been to this restaurant a few times and it's okay. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired (it pretty much looks like a diner). And the food is okay, but at the price it's not terrible. The oxtail, however, is fantastic and the cornbread is not bad. For better soul fool and atmosphere, you'd be better off a little further uptown

Poor service plain and simple. When we came into the restaurant, they didn't acknowledge us for several minutes. They let us wait wondering if we will be seated at all. I have seen people walk out after a while. The waitresses are slow from the time they seat you, to the time they give you your check. They look unhappy working there including the cashier lady. They have only one waiter and unfortunately the only one who is helpful and friendly. Too bad because the ribs are pretty good.

The restaurant has a cute homey feel. The food was above average. I had the sampler plate the fried chicken was excellent the ribs were not real smoked barbeque ribs and could have been more tender. The catfish was excellent and the beef short rib was also good. The collard greens were a little dry but the Mac & Cheese was very good as well as the yams. The service was very poor. This restaurant has a lot of potential but needs a little work when it comes to good customer service. The food was not too salty but seasoned well. I would visit this establish again when in NYC but hope that they get it together with the service.

After years of hearing good things about this place, we finally tried it and were disappointed. We love southern cooking, so we ordered the sampler plate and the trout. Both were subpar. Yes, the portions are large, but that is not a good thing when the food is poor. The ribs and chicken were tough and dry as was the fish. We ordered mac and cheese sides and collards and everything was oversalted. Service was poor so we asked for doggy bags and left asap. I thought I might be able to salvage the food at home but it was too oversalted to save.
