The bread was not good with sesame seeds on it! The baked clams were barely edible. And I was stupid enough to order the hardest driest chicken Marsala ever! Ugh! After I told them I didn't like the food and barely ate it, they just said sorry and gave me the bill. This place is sad. A waste of my time and money.

I recently ate at Mimi's after not having been there for several years. I ordered a salad, chicken parmesan and I was told by the server that it was served with a salad or a side of pasta; since I had ordered a salad I opted for the pasta. When I was served the chicken I asked for the pasta and was told, oh, you had the salad. This was okay since I had eaten bread (very good by the way) and could do without the pasta. When the check came the salad was on there but was taken off when I questioned that. The chicken was very tough, and I had asked for the cheese to be browned which it was not. While the prices are low I think the food could be better if given enough attention. The restaurant was very crowded and everyone seems to be very rushed. Another problem is that we were sitting in the window and it was very hot, it was also a warm day but I had the rushed feeling, get in and out in a hurry. Good location and prices but I will not be returning to this restaurant any time soon.

Is rude attitude and swearing the new thing in New York? No. I'm a New Yorker and grew up in Brooklyn where everything is VERY straight forward, but to see a waitress having attitude and a bartender cursing in a family style restaurant is not acceptable. On top, I own a successful restaurant and know how the deal goes in restaurants. Recommended by a friend having his own bar nearby, I had several lunches and dinners there. Its a family restaurant with the owner at the bar during daytimes and lively entertainment at nights. One night I went in with a couple of buddies of mine from out of town and sat by the window at the round table. The piano man greeted us in as he played. People seemed to like him as the place laughed and cheered with him. The place wasn't busy at all that night, lively nonetheless. As a restaurant owner, scouting out a place is second nature. The waitress that was soon to be serving us that night stood at the bar talking to a guy in a suit. The host was very friendly and seated us comfortably. We didn't see the waitress for about 10 mins. She didn't make her rounds enough as other customers asked for her. I wasn't surprised when the check was service charged. I smiled and just paid the bill. To the good stuff. Wines selection is good and maintained well. Appetizers and food selection is excellent and price over all is cheap compared to other Manhattan restaurants (including mine). Above all, the atmosphere is good. The males waiters seem to give better service. Lunch is better than dinners. Bad stuff. Service is good during daytime and bad at night. Not a good idea to sit near the bar since one of the bartender like to curse a lot. Decided to stick to lunch when the service is much better. If you're going in just for a good appetite, I recommend it. If you're going in to spend some time with friends, go in with caution. I do not recommend going with a family. The restaurant is good but the service definitely brings down the place. From what I hear, the bartenders and waitresses have been there for a long time. The male waiters look young and probably college students. Reserve ahead of time if you have more than a party of 5. If you're going in for entertainment and drinks, stick around the piano. The lady serving is a family member and will take care of you well. To be frank, I think the restaurant would be much better but the food seems to work well for it to still stick around.

Love the food, love the atmosphere, but my goodness find some decent wait staff! What is up with them? Inattentive, grumpy, slow... Not what one would expect from a place that has such a nice atmosphere and great food. I'll return when that changes. Until then... Not me.

We've been to Mimi's several times now and we don't always go just for the food. The atmosphere is just plain fun! You can expect to get a very good meal and enjoy it in a fun environment. We've tried many of the staples here, and have never been disappointed. The bar is always lively, and the piano and singing bring a very friendly feel to the room. The only real criticism I have is that you don't want to be seated in the traffic lanes around the bar and kitchen.

I go to Mimi's once in a while, and while the food is good, the service is sometimes inattentive. Last night, I ordered a chef salad that was supposed to come with cheese. The salad showed up and after I took a few bites, I realized there was no cheese. I wanted to flag down my waitress, but she was nowhere to be seen. When I finished my drink and wanted another, she was again completely out of sight. Toward the end of my meal, she took an order from a nearby table and I caught her attention, but she didn't come over and then disappeared again for some time. She eventually brought over our bill (10-15 minutes after we were done eating) and the host had to come take our payment. I should add that it was not a busy night. Fewer than half the tables were full. Truly lousy service.

This place is awesome. It's like going to a show and getting a meal for free. When we walked in and there was a women singing with the piano player. We thought it was a duet, but later found out it was actually an open "mic." The piano player was hysterical and really entertaining accompanied by some good, talented random singers. The food is great, I had the Veal Marsala. I highly recommend it. We finished our meal with a Tartufo ice cream that we were able to split. When the bill came we were both surprised how reasonable the prices are. A great New York restaurant.
