Worth Every Penny!
I live 2 blocks from Mimi's. The food is amazing. It can be a little (a lot) noisy at night with the piano player, but it's all so festive so I don't really mind. The food is outstanding. I'm learning to try different dishes and I've been happy so far with all. I've had shrimp scampi (totally amazing); Chicken Milanese (outrageous); Rigatoni Bolognese to die for!! I usually have 1/2 caraf of wine Zinfindel and I am so happily stuffed. I always tip the waiters extra because they are so friendly. It can get really hectic because it's such a popular place, but it sure is worth the wait!! I highly recommend Mimis for it's wonderful food and cozy and fun atmosphere.

I can't believe the reviews the last couple people gave! I've lived in this neighborhood for over 5 years and have never had a bad meal. Food is excellent basic italian, service is great, and the atmosphere is so cute! I am a customer for life!!! All dishes coem w/ pasta or salad.. where else can you get that! I LOVE Mimi's!

Coming back for Piano Player
I don't remember much about the food or service...but it wasn't bad, so I guess that's a plus. I'm coming back to New York for Christmas, and my first plan is to get back to that crazy piano player at Mimi's! Behind that wierd persona is a really, really talented pianist...but he understands good piano players are a dime a dozen in NYC, so he has him gimmicks. Ask him to play something legit....amazing!

Agree about the piano player
The previous reviewer hit the nail on the head-Chicken Delicious-or Hunter as he was previously known is the best show in town, and Fred is a real personality and the place is a lot friendlier since he took over hosting duties. The food is so-so but I was turned on to the pork chops with cherry peppers by the younger blond waitress and I get that and the salad with blue cheese dressing every time I go there.

best piano player I've ever seen!
I happened on Mimi's by chance a few years ago and have been stopping by regularly since then-the food is average Italian red sauce fare that used to be better when they had a real chef. The host is fantastic and makes the place but the Best thing about Mimi's is Chicken Delicious the piano player who puts on such a fantastic visual show and is frankly one of the most talented piano players I have ever had the pleasure of hearing, when he plays classical pieces there is such a depth and richness-I have heard others playing that same piano and it doesn't sound like the same instrument-Bravo,Bravo Chicken!

really disappointed
I've lived in the neighborhood for years, and finally decided to give this place a try. I liked the looks from the outside, and inside is quaint and cozy. It turned out not what I hoped it would be. We waited a long time for our waiter, he forgot our drinks not once, but twice, and when I asked for my pasta to be cooked softer, not so al dente, he said "we can't, it's already pre-cooked" Not what a diner wants to hear. The salads were small and boring, I make and present a better salad at home and the pasta, even though the portion was a good size, was kind of blah. I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't. We left disappointed and not happy with the experience. Not terribly expensive, but not worth what we paid.

Poor Service!
Atmosphere: Pretty decent. There is a man playing calming old tunes on the piano. It's also very quaint--small tables and uncomfortable chairs. Huge windows allow you to people watch at everyone who walks by. Food: I thought the bread was delicious...and that's about it. I got a ceasar salad, which shouldn't be too hard to screw up, but it wasn't good. I also kept it simple and got pasta shells and marinara sauce but the pasta wasn't even fully cooked. The people I was with thought their food was too salty. Value: It's probably as cheap as it gets for an Italian dinner in NYC. Service: You'd expect your waitress to be somewhat friendly or atleast pleasant or even nice. But I didn't see her smile the entire night I was there. You could just tell how miserable she thought her job was. It took forever for our food to come out and it wasn't even very busy. Overall: I didn't have much a problem with it until I realized how absolutely cruel our waitress was. And I almost always am satisfied at whatever restaurant I go to...but not there.
