    Mike's Bistro experience

This place was recommended by a friend of ours. We read all the reviews and decided to stop by for a dinner while our trip to New York. I will try to be objective on all aspects of our experience. It didn't meet our expectations at all. You can get this kind of home cooking restaurants all over Israel. I guess the pricing was what ruined our expectations. For 20$ for aps and 45$ for mains we expected everything to be perfect. Not that the food was bad. It was GOOD but not exceptional. The salad I had was just like the salad you can get anywhere. The gnocchi had more chicken than duck. Talking about short cuts and saving a dollar on chefs side. It was the highlight of our meal after all. It tasted nice and could be even better if it had more duck and less chicken. My husband's steak was sent back twice. Every time it was undercooked. I do understand that a good steak should be med rare, but my husband prefers it well done. This is how he likes it. Can they get this right and how the customers want it? I guess not. The desserts. A complete disaster. They looked like they were brought from across the street with 600% markup sold to us. Nothing inspiring at all. Hiring a pastry chief could solve this problem if I was running this place. Again, the place is strong 3-4. The prices that's what pushed it down to 2. For this kind of money Mikes charges we expect it to be close to perfect. The place is small but cozy. It was almost empty while we dined. So the service was amazing. We really had all the professional attention from our waiter. Are we coming back? Certainly not. The food could use some refining and did I mention the pricing? Inadequate to say the least.

    Not too much.

Very small portions! the food was "ok" but for that price i should have been full after i left.

Poor service, good food, disappointing dessert

Staff was rude after keeping us waiting for our reserved time for more than 30 minutes. Appy and main were very good, but dessert tasted like a store bought cake.

    Great experience!

We went to Mike's Bistro last night for our anniversary and had a great experience! We shared a goose appetizer (which is not always available) that was incredible. My husband had the black angus rib eye fillet medium-rare that was fabulous, and I had the braised short ribs which was so soft and succulent I finished the whole portion withouth even touching my knife! The food was fabulous, and the waiters were pleasant and efficient. We will definitely be going back for more!

Pretty good for a Kosher place

But they make you pay in blood. I know kosher places ask premium prices, but for 2 drinks (Johnny Walker Black), 2 salads and 2 entrees (small portions of the short ribs (brisket) and the sliced chicken), $200 is really taking advantage. This stuff is not haute cuisine. I notice the ribs and the gnocchi are raved about by other reviewers, well the short ribs are pretty good, even a little better than my Mom's brisket cause Mike's adds a dash of tangy barbecue, but the gnocchi, which is duck filled, if you can find the duck, tastes like it was cooked in chicken soup. Over all, it's a nice place with pretty good, not exceptional food, but the prices are exorbitant.

One of the best kosher restaurants I know

We had the 7 course taster which was amazing!! Very sophisticated food and not vast portions. Well done, mike, we'll be back!
