Mediocre food, pleasant atmosphere
I have been here a few times with co-workers. It's roomy, quiet, and very reasonably priced. Service is quick & pleasant. Food is nothing to write home about, but you get what you pay for. At least at lunch time, the prices are very affordable. The sushi is on par with what you would get at the supermarket, but some people like that. If you actually want great sushi in the area, go to Sun Cafe on Reade. They also have great specials, but they're sushi is actually great, too.

Wholly Forgettable
In New York City, there are innumerable, hoi polloi sushi joints, each as forgettable as the next. This is one of them. Sure, the decor is cute: pretty wooden scaffolding hides the unfinished ceiling and its ugly ventilation system while pictures of clouds adorn the walls. But let's not mince words. There was nothing innovative about this restaurant or its menu. The fish is second rate. I regret ingesting so much mercury for the medicore fare. Each slice of sashimi had a funny oily shimmer and slimy texture, pretty in a photo but scary to put in your mouth. And this coming from a girl who gleefully sprinkles deep fried crickets on her guacamole. The saladiceberg lettuce floating in that carrot ginger dressingwas frozen. That it was free with my lunch special cannot act as an excuse for lettuce icebergs. The oshitashi too undoubtedly came from a bag of frozen, chopped spinach. And was sauceless to boot. And these offenses are not for a lack of waitstaff. There is an abundance of waitresses, who dart about the restaurant as if it were on fire. No. they actually run from table to table, which predictably s chaos and a sense of foreboding that whatever you have ordered might be on fire and burning down the kitchen. Sure, this is a cheap option were you to be gracing the corner of Centre and Walker Streets. However, you do pay for what you get. And at a little less than 9 dollars for 10 slices of raw fish, do not expect some sort of epicurean bargain. In fact, do not expect an afternoon without a touch of indigestion.

Good Food, Great People
If you buy the idea that food is healthier when cooked with love, Mikata is the place for you. The people are so warm, it almost brought tears to my eyes. The prices are very good too.

Terrific sushi, lovely people.
I have had nothing but delightful experiences with Mikata. I have only gotten delivery mind you, but the staff have all been so nice and professional. They are great with special requests too. The food is above-par for the neighborhood and the prices aren't an insult, like so many other places. Enjoy!

Great sushi, Nice place =)
It's located right on the outskirts of chinatown, borderline SoHo, on the second floor after u walk in the restaurant. You'll see a little sign outside. It's a cute, quiet place, great for big or small groups. I came here for a birthday party of a friend. The sushi's yummy and not extravagantly priced. The sashimi was nice and fresh. Delicious. It's a great place for a date or just dinner w/ friends. Great for convos and catching up.
