You can do better
My boyfriend and I are huge tapas fans. I was excited to find this place right near where I work. The place is cute and the staff couldn't have been nicer. However, the tapas were mediocre at best. We ordered several different items and they ranged from bland to practically inedible. I will say that the crab cake appetizer was very good, though.

Excellent choice
My wife daughter and I have become reacquainted with the NYC theater scene and hence have been sampling the restaurant row establishments. Could not have been more satisfied with our recent visit to Meson Sevilla in July 2007. We were promptly seated when arriving a good half hour before our reservations following a Saturday matinee. Complimentary bruschetta was a pleasant start for our dining experience. Our appetizers, stuffed mushrooms and calamari, served promptly, were both delicious and whetted our appetites nicely prior to our entrees. I had the Seafood Mariscada, an array of seafood and shellfish and was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of fresh shrimp, scallops, mussels on my plate. My wife had the Veal Francaise, fork tender and delicious. The surprise of the meal was my daughters Steak Meson Sevilla, an incredibly large cut of filet mignon wrapped in bacon with mushrooms and a sumptious brown sauce. Outstanding and reasonably priced by our previous NYC dining standards. Sides were served family style with saffron rice and fresh roasted seasonal veggies, that tasted like they were picked just before service and nicely appointed with olive oil and garlic. We all had Flan for dessert. Sweet, creamy and rich providing a nice contrast to our meals. With pre dinner coctkails, a pitcher of Sangria and Spanish coffees with dessert, our bill was $150.00 before the tip. Again, a bargain for NYC and the amount of high quality food we were served. As far as service and staff, our waiters were attentive without being obtrusive, and promptly responsive. The manager stopped by our table several times to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable and offered us complimentary after dinner drinks. I guess some of the reviewers here with negative comments must have just caught a bad day. It happens occasionally. We will definitely be going back again and highly recommend Meson Sevilla for first time NYC theater goers

Great Tapas good sangria
We enjoy Tapas and a few friends that live in the area recomended Meson sevilla. My friends and i orderd red sangria to start and we orderd about 7 kinds of tapas . We all agreed the service was polite the tapas especialy the pulpo(octopus) was my fave we could not find a thing wrong. Since a few of us live in the area we went back again about a week after , again same great food the wait staff recognized us and even gave us some spanish ham and sausage on the house and in the end it was fantastic we love the place and will keep going back.

Great place and the best spanish tapas..
This place is great ! It is typical spanish tavern small , warm and quaint, The staff is pleasent the food was the best I have had in N.Y. yet and the price is perfect with good priced wines. four times I have been at Meson Sevilla and the staff now treats me like I am at home and welcomed. Nice to go to places that treat you like that today and not like a number.

Split personality?
I'm amazed at the divergent reviews for this restaurant...some really good ones and some bad one. Do they have different wait staff on different days? The day we went there, and they were not busy at all at about 1:00 p.m., they probably had the "bad" waiters. We saw our waiter three times: when he took our order, brought our food, and gave us the bill. Maybe the rest of the time he was taking a siesta. The food was good (but not memorable) and the service was totally sub-par. I won't go back.

Expensive and substandard
We found ourselves on 46th st and were checking out the various menus trying to decide where to go for dinner. The hostess came outside and told us about the prix fix menu and told us our choices, and also said we could choose any dessert on the menu. My husband decided it looked good so we went in. The bruschetta they put on the table was fabulous, so we had high hopes. I was't sure about the prix fix choices but decided it would be a good way to get an idea. The starters were a little unimaginative, but okay. The entrees arrived. My porkchop was bland and had no spice. It tased like a porck chop covered in sliced tomato. Yuck would be a good description. My husband got the mussels and was pleased with them. My son got fettucine and liked it. Then came time for the dessert choices. They consisted of rice pudding, a scoop of icecream chocolate or vanilla, or flan. The food was uninspiring up to this point, and I don't like the consistency of flan or rice pudding, so I wasn't happy. My husband told our waiter that the young lady that got us to come in said we had a choice of dessert from the menu. he just said "No". He asked if we could pay the difference and get something else. The waiter just said "No". He didn't try to appease us in any way. The food was average to below average. The best thing about it and the only thing I had that I liked was the free bruschetta. It was an expensive lesson and with all the choices, I can't see why they would ever have repeat customers.
