Go for their lunch special!
I always frequent Meskerem (out of 5 places I've tried, it's got the best Ethiopian food). I've had 1 subpar experience, but all the other times it's been great with fantastic food. If only the prices were lower, or their portions were bigger, I'd be eating here A LOT more! And if they had lunch specials on the weekends, holy smokes, I'd be eating all my lunches there. The special lunch menu is a must. The price is almost 1/2 as dinner menu with the same sized portions! I was surprised (thought they'd be a lot smaller). Go for lunch to try it out :)

Great Ethiopian spot, portions have gotten smaller
The quality of the food at Meskerem is consistently good, and so is the service (for both dining in and delivery). However, as two other reviewers have said, the portion sizes have become noticeably smaller (the entrees are about 2/3 or 3/4 the size that they used to be).

Portions Too Small
Let me just say that I love ethiopian food and have eaten here many times over the past several years, BUT in the past year or so the portions have decreased considerably. I really like the food but I'm a vegetarian and $9 for a few spoons string beans is just too expensive. I wouldn't mind the prices is the portions were the same as they used to be.

Delicious Food, Just Wish They Gave Bigger Portions!
Just like the title says, Meskerem has delicious food. I've tried 3 Ethiopian places in the city, and this one is by far the best. Really yummy food, atmosphere is more for families (nothing too hip or fun), and the service is good. I really just wish they gave bigger portions given their prices. I will say though that this place is MUCH better than Queen of Sheba right around the corner...

Good food, great value !
I've been to many a restaurant in my lifetime; tried many cuisines and across different countries - so food, if I may say, is one of my favorite topics and one that I am well versed in. Having said that, I'm not sure what the "Ethopian food lover" comment is about Meskerem being so bad. Its actually quite the opposite. Even in NYC, there have been quite a few Ethopian establishments that have come and gone and there is a reason this one is still around. Yes, its because people like it & the food is good and value is fantastic. Meskerem would be up there on the top, among Ethopian restaurants - barring a place I tried in Morocco & another in Atlanta - yes, you got that right - Atlanta.

Strange Injera
The injera is quite sour, more sour than any other Ethiopian restaurant to which I've been. The food is otherwise decent but a few other Ethiopian spots in the city are better.

Great Ethiopian food near midtown
I've been here a couple of times and the food has always been really good. The injera tasted like teff to me and has always been perfect. I've had Ethiopian food in Northern California, LA and Israel and this food is as good if not better than any other Ethiopian restaurant I've been to. The service can be a little slow, but otherwise I have no complaints.
