delicious ethiopian home cooking
this place says it's just home cooking - but I don't know many home cooks who cook this good... The food here is very fresh and tasty, I love the fasolia (string beans) and cabbage, and the bread they serve everything on. Sambosas were nice too. the service was pretty friendly. I just wish they have more non-alcohol drinks variety, but it's a small quibble.

Great food, poor service
My first time to have Ethiopian food was at Meskel and it was delicious. Unfortunately, the service there was pretty poor. I'm not sure if it was because the waitress didn't understand what we were saying or just refused to acknowledge our orders, but we didn't receive any napkins and had to get them ourselves, we had a lot of people on our table and were hoping to share the food and asked for extra plates and never recieved them, and we also asked the waittress twice for wine and she never gave us any! The waitress seemed busy, but not that busy so I don't see how she could not have done those simple things. The service marred what was supposed to be a great ladies night out!

Awesome
This place is amazing--the food is delicious, the service is friendly. Try the avocado salad, the lentil dish, or the lamb dishes....all are incredible. A +

Finally
Coming from DC, where Ethiopian food is really at its best, I can honestly say that Meskel certainly knows what they're doing. I've gotten in this pattern of eating there once a week. I recommend the Avocado salad, The Vegitarian platter and any of the lamb dishes. The chicken dishes are also a pure delight. The icing on the cake: its BYOB!!!

delish!
I think this is the best Ethiopian downtown. The meat dishes are delicious and the chicken is so tender, unlike at other places nearby. The atmosphere is also wonderfully warm and homey. I can't wait to go back!

Great food, they need to deliver!
I went here twice. Once for a crazy birthday party and another time with my girlfriend. The food is amazing...it's a nice family run spot. A little slow, so don't be in a rush. This must be the only restaurant in the east village that doesn't deliver...they need to start!
