I love it!
I love Ethiopian, and have eaten at all of the restaurants in NYC; the service is the best I've experienced, the food was excellent (both meat & veggie), and although the decor is not ornate, the restaurant is charmingly mostly windows so you can watch the streets outside (the other restaurants tend to be in darker spaces). I highly recommend!

Great Food
Everything is made fresh and quite delicious. The atmosphere is not great but the value is amazing. The best Ethiopian and friendly service.

The Riches of New York
Ethiopian food is the best cusine ive ever had in my life. With that said I have to thank Meskel for making me feel that way. Meskel Ethio. Res. Is the best in nyc, their ingera is very light and soft...while the rich sauces accomdate the wonderful taste of the cusine. The Service was AMAZING. our waitress was very nice and attentive- taking the time to explain everything on the menu. Their honeywine is also a big plus. i highly reccomend this resturant to anyone who has never tried Ethiopian food- or is a fan of the cusine its self... and i also belive the people who are writing negative comments should NOT destroy a resturant's reputaion, just cause you were not a fan of the cusine in general. it is wrong and obserd. If anyplace in NYC has AMAZING Ethiopian food, and portions, along with service is MESKEL.

best ethiopian in the city?
I have been surveying the NYC ethiopian joints over the past few years, and this place might supplant my uptown faves as the best spot in manhattan. Unlike so many Ehtiopian restuarants where the veggeis are lackluster, Meskel's veggies are on par with their delicious meat dishes, making me not guilty to drag vegetarians there!

Best little place ever
The best food and very friendly service, the only thing is that this place only has maybe 3 or 4 tables and bare walled.

Great experience
I had never had Ethiopian food before, but the food at Meskel was fantastic. Our waitress took time & explained the dishes on the menu and everything turned out great (especially the avocado salad vegetarian sampler). All and all a great experience and I'm happy to leave feedback for Meskel.

A really big let down to say the least.
I should know by now that I will never experience Ethiopian food as I have experienced it in London, LA, SF, DC, and even Kigali. After reading the reviews for Meskel, I was hoping that perhaps it would make up for the 3 other disappointing Ethiopian restaurants I have tried in the city. Dead wrong. If anything, it was the most disappointing. Skimpy portions (the vegetarian combo which is usually enough for two people was barely enough for one); bland injera; stingy on the injera (we asked for more and the server brought us ONE small piece); and terrible service (and normally I really don't care/even sometimes enjoy when the service is a bit slow). Eating with a friend who had never had Ethiopian food, I was embarrassed and ashamed of my favorite cuisine. This was compounded by the fact that when I looked over at the table next to us, I saw that the family had each ordered individual entrees - blasphemous for a cuisine that has such a rich culture of sharing from the same plate. Please, someone suggest a restaurant in NYC that does Ethiopian food justice!
