Wow! Bobby, Bobby! What a major disappointment! We love Bobby! Love Bar American, Mesa Grill in the Bahamas, and hadn't been Mesa in NYC for 4 years or so, so decided this was the perfect place for a holiday luncheon. Wrong! Had a reservation, but even though the place was half empty, was asked to wait. Can I take your coat? I don't think so, no one ever asked, which I assume was because the place was totally understaffed. Should have ran when I saw the "Grade Pending" Health dept sign in the window! We got seated at a back table, no bread ever came out. Ordered 3 apps...Goat cheese fundido, cold. Squid, tiny order. Tuna tartar was the best, but by far, nothing to write home about. Swordfish club...No flavor. Shrimp tacos...how about a slice of lime...ok, 10 mins later. Banana Cream pie, no banana flavor! Service was awful! Food was cold and overpriced. Waitress came over and said "she was out of her head" Huh? whatever! How could this get any worse? The Host was sitting at the bar, "eating" his lunch....and licked every single thing off of his plate with his fingers! The place hasn't been updated since it opened...filthy ceilings, boring paint, it was a day before Christmas and the music was low, tinny and hardy audible, just more of an annoyance in the background. This is not the kind of place I can imagine Bobby would want his name tied too... I'm ready for a Throwdown Bobby, are you?

A very disappointing meal. It is remarkable the powers of TV. If this restaurant was owned by a no name chef, it would be out of business. Food is overpriced, small portions and mediocre at best. I had the ciopinno and had slice pizza on the way home. There are so many better restaurants in Union Square. AVOID this one. btw....this is my first review ever, it was so bad I had to tell someone.

came here on vacation with friends. reservation ignored, we waited an additional half hour. Fine. Waiter starts with typical NY upsell on everything from tequila to water. Fine. He vanishes for odd amounts of time, though runner brings pre-made apps in a jiffy. Grumble. Entrees come and all the temperatures are off. Curses. Plates not cleared in timely manner. What is going on here? Dessert is unremarkable but the bill surely is remarkable. Wow this place is not worth the money.

Everything sounds better than it is when it arrives. "Blue Corn" and "Glazed" dishes somehow don't hold up to their names. This place is also quite expensive for high end Mexican food.

I live in Manhattan - I frequent a lot of local eateries, and for the most part, I rarely, if ever, have come across a so-called "high-end" restaurant that doesn't make reservations their priority like Mesa Grill. Anyway, I should've known better. We were made to wait for upwards of 20 minutes, even though we arrived about 5 minutes before our scheduled reservation. Call me jaded, but come on now - for the money I'm paying, please have a table ready for my party on time...on a TUESDAY.

Probably, Rest week does not work for Mesa Grill. Drinks (cactus and cherry margaritas) were bland. Appetizer was really good (shrimp cake). BUT: our main course (red snapper) - we sent it back. It was disappointing; tough like swordfish! the table next sent it back, too. The waitress was courteous, manager also, we ordered pelleno (stuffed pepper) instead which was very hot (spicy) and not as good as when its on regular priced menu. dessert (bread pudding w/berries) was very good, but that's easy, it is usually good everywhere. we were not offered anything for the main course fiasco. we did not ask, and they did not offer. also, one of us ordered a margarita and asked not to put too much ice in it. she got a glass half full. overall: will not go there again, and will not recommend. "bad taste" - literally and figurally. :-) bobby flay, i am so disappointed.

They need to spruce up this space and the menu. "Chili-rubbed' doesn't make for a premium meal anymore.
