    Not Good Dining Experience

A group of my girlfriends came to Mesa Grill for a fun time and great food. We had high expectations for this place because of its acclaimed owner, Bobbi Flay. I don't usually complain about waiters/waitresses because I have been one myself but I feel compelled to share my experience. We were a group of 10 girls and I think the waiter thought he didn't have to work hard because he could just slap the automatic 18% gratuity to our bill. He never visited our table after he took our order, and messed up our birthday surprise for two of our girls. The food was good, but not worth the money. I think all the girls spent close to $80-$100 a person for dishes that were not memorable at all. Our server hovered over us when he gave us our bill like we were not going to pay him. He thoroughly confused us when he charged one of my girlfriend's credit cards. We later found out he stole $100 dollars on top of the automatic gratuity we had to pay him.

    No disappointment here

My husband and I went to the Mesa Grill after the Radio City Christmas Show in December 2007. I was so excited to be there because I love to watch Bobby Flay and was hoping he would be at the restaurant that night, but had been there several days earlier according to the bartender. The food was just awesome. I had the Pumpkin Soup, which was heavenly and my husband had the Cornmeal Crusted Oysters which he said were tender and delicious. For entrees he had the Grilled Lamb Porterhouse Chops which he said were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed since I don't like lamb and never cook it. I had the Spice Crusted Swordfish Steak and it was so flaky it just melted in my mouth, an experience I had never had with swordfish before. We had the Cauliflower Green Chile Gratin which was flavorful and very good. I remember we shared a dessert and it was chocolate, as we are both chocoholics it was heavenly, but most anything that is chocolate is heavenly to us. Yes it was expensive, but totally worth it. I would definitely go back. We are going to a play in NYC today and have reservations at Bar Americain I hope the experience is equally enjoyable. I'll let you know.

    Lots of overpriced hype

Went there for a big celebratory dinner, and got nothing more than a standard meal at twice the price. Came to $200 for two people - full meals with app, entree, dessert and cocktail. The interior of the restaurant is plain and signals the disappointment to come. Had the pork loin - it was tough and lacked flavor. Appetizers are pretty good, though. Definitely not worth the money - the only reason to come here is to tell others you visited Bobby Flay's restaurant.

    Waste of time and money

Went there with my husband last Friday night (Feb 15th) and was quite let down. First we asked for lemon wedges to accompany our ice water, and they were never brought out. Then I ordered a cocktail, and requested it without ice. The server brings out the cocktail and says : I know you ordered it straight up but you are supposed drink it like this'. Couldn't he have said that before? It's an $11 cocktail, I would have picked something else. He didn't even bother to ask me if it would be ok to still add ice cubes. He just put it in front of me. The food was nothing more than average which is very disappointing. Then we ask our server to wrap up our food and in front of us, he stacks the plates on top of the food that we were planning to take home! He threw it all in one big pile between other dirty dishes, so disgusting! Dinner for 2 cost us $150 and for that money it wouldn't hurt if the food would have been somewhat tasty. The meal wasn't worth even half that amount.

    Great food. Somewhat irritating service

Went for restaurant week winter 08. The food was great! Bobby Flay was actually there which was cool. The service was actually very fast - too fast for my taste (and i'm a new yorker) - i felt like they were rushing us to finish. Other than that is was a great meal and I would go back for the food.

    Kind of disappointed

I came to visit NYC from Boston and was very excited to get reservations at Mesa grill during Restaurant week. But I wasn't all that impressed with the decor and the service was very very slow. The manager apologized for the slow service, but that still didn't make up for the time i wasted there. the food was good, but small portions and a bit pricey.
