Good oysters, bad food
I think if I decide to come back here o would only have the oysters. They were good and fresh and the prosecco we had with it was delicious. We then ordered the lobster "sandwich" each which came with old bay fries and were extremely disappointed. The lobster came on a large brioche style burger bun which was on the verge of being burnt and the lobster was tasteless. The fries were way over seasoned with old bay seasoning so was practically inedible. The 2 lobster rolls came to $52 which would have been reasonable if it was good but even the amount of lobster we got was disgraceful. The only other highlight apart from the oysters was the complementary dessert, a chocolate moose which was yum.

4 stars only?! I don't think so.
Mermaid is what Pearl Oyster Bar should aspire to be but never will. Friendly staff, fantastic lobster roll, sexy wedge salad, comfy but elegant atmosphere, like being in a Hamptons living room without the pretentiousness. Don't question it, go!

Great Happy Hour
Check out the happy hour at the Mermaid - 1-2$ oysters, 3$ shrimp corndogs, 7$ cocktails - fantastic deal! The only downside is that the food is not amazing. Of course the oysters are great - but the shrimp corndogs were just ok and the salmon tartare was somewhat uninspired. But service was fantastic, the drinks were stiff, and the oysters were cheap....

Don't go for the Crabs
I am not one to write a negative review but as a proud Baltimorean I feel it is my duty to review the Maryland Crab Boil at Mermaid Oyster Bar. I don’t want my fellow Baltimoreans to be disappointed or for first timers to think that this is what the hype is all about. The price wasn't so bad ($24 for 4-5 crabs, potatoes, corn bread and corn on the cob) but the crabs were TINY and ALL female. It is a lot of work for barely any meat and just not worth it. In Maryland a dozen large crabs go for about $75. My advice to Mermaid is get better crabs and charge more. It is well worth it.

Amazing
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. I dream about the Sauteed Calamari and the Oysters (only $1 during Happy Hour!). I try to get here whenever I get the chance.

Mermaid Disappointment
We were very excited to try this restaurant after the wonderful reviews we had heard and read. We were very disappointed. Aside from delicious oysters, the food left much to be desired. The shrimp cocktail was standard. The over-priced lobster roll and tuna burger both lacked flavor. The french fries were the highlight of both dishes. We should have known not to expect much once we entered the restaurant. Every other place on the block was packed, but Mermaid was sadly half-empty.
