Creative eats but service is the peets

I was just there over the weekend for a late lunch with the visiting parents. The place itself is impressive. It is sleekly designed and attracts a hip clientele - a combination of well dressed downtown types and young my-parents-are-rich-and-new-york-is-my-playground types. Blase locals strolled in wearing sandals and sweatpants to sunday brunch, then sip bottled water while reading the sunday times magazine. The food was terrific, the menu comprised of traditional dishes with a creative twist. Everyone with me seemed impressed. Only shortcoming? - the waitstaff. Our waitress was oblivious. As happened to another reviewer, ours walked off in the middle of giving our order, literally mid-sentence.

    Not worth the price

The food was good, but I've tasted much better food for the same price. The atmosphere is also nice. But the service was just poor. I had a waiter spill wine all over my dress as he was walking through, and another spilled water all over the table. Would not go back.

    Phenomenal cuisine

I was incredibly impressed with our food at Mercer Kitchen last night. We started with the seafood appetiser, which included perfectly prepared lobster tail, escargot, tuna sashimi, oysters, and succulent shrimp. But the main course made my day. I ordered the cod on a whim, and have honestly never had as deliciously prepared fish in MY LIFE. The outside was encrusted with a very light potato batter, the fish was exquisitely cooked and light, flavorful, flaky, moist...the radishes on top as a garnish were infused with some delicious type of mignonette, and the fish was sitting on perfectly blended and buttery mashed potatoes. My girlfriend had the salmon with chick pea puree with a light layer of mignonette sauce underneath. She was highly complimentary and as a foodie, that is saying a lot. Our desserts were equally scrumptious, I got the cheesecake with a squash salsa and mango ice cream, and my better half got the warm chocolate cake, which melted in the mouth. Atmosphere is great, but the service could be improved. Our waiter kept on calling every group he served "gentlemen," seemingly disregarding the finer sex. Overall, this is DEFINITELY a place worth checking out. I super highly recommend the cod. Price was $200 for two people with a bottle of wine, appetisers and dessert.

Great, hip place with excellent food. You can't go wrong with getting the roasted chicken.. it's excellent. I always get the chicken whether it's for dinner or the chicken sandwich for lunch... So tasty. Saw George Lucas eating the sandwich for lunch!

Food was a bit synthetic and service was poor. Walked away from the place feeling it was somehow blandly innovative or generically stylish.

    Bloody Mary

I am a bloody mary lover, and they know how to make 'em at MK. The space is incredible and the tuna wasabi pizza was love at first bite.

    Cool atmosphere

The decor was really nice. They spent some money putting that place together. Our server was great too. The food was ok. I had a tuna app that was really good and a main entree lamb loin. The lamb was great, I just wish there was more of it. I had to get a slice a few hours after dinner. My wife had steamed skate which was tasteless. I would go for drinks to check the place out, but there is better food for the same price elsewhere. Try Public near by.
