    Point of No Return

I wish I could love Mercer Kitchen more. Once upon a time, in spite of the touristy raves, I used to think of it as a neighborhood haven in Soho. Now I just don't know. This last Saturday pretty much the only thing I really enjoyed was the music they had playing during my visit. Too many times I have dropped in for a small bite and gotten shoved to the bar with my underage daughter while waiting for a table. Too many times has our table been situated near a service station and so tight that I've had to order looking up my waiter's nose. Too many times they've tried to upsell me on bottled water and forgotten bread service . This last time the food looked and tasted tired and dated. I understand how sometimes a place gets trapped in its original formula- I feel its time for some brave new moves from the management team. Please don't just cater to the out of town crowd or the drinks crowd, leave a little space for neighborhood folk who don't come only for bragging rights and also please give us some really new options on the regular menu.

The food was way too salty and not very good quality! And this is coming from someone who cooks with tons of salt...I'm in shock that there is so much hype surrounding this place. Would never go back!

    Poor Service

Fresh, made to order tasty food. A little loud, however cozy and warm. The service is poor. In a restaurant of this pedigree you'd expect servers to know the menu inside out, they do not. There's lots of drink spillage. They never check to see how things are once food is served. We went to celebrate a milestone and the waiter overheard us and said, "I will take care of you with dessert." We assumed a comped dessert... We were wrong, the kitchen put a candle on the pie. We felt mildly duped. The food is good, the place is trendy. For the prices and its pedigree along with the service I would say it falls short.

Service was poor. No one came to check on us after our food was brought to the table. I ordered the eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked and the potatoes were undercooked. My friend ordered the burger cooked medium and it was rare. Very, very disappointed.

    Not worth the hype

Don't get me wrong, this restaurant was average for NY, but for the hype it gets it was not worth it. The salmon was bad, calamari was cold and service was horrible. There were a few tasty things on the menu, don't get me wrong (tuna egg rolls, panna cotta both delicious), but with the several menu items that are sub-par and the poor service, I'm not impressed.

    Fabulous

The food was simple but delious. Would highly recommend the chicken and the butterscotch pudding (so good!). What really stood apart was the service, though. Our server was incredibly attentive (without hovering) and actually seemed to care whether we where enjoying our meal. Highly, highly recommend

    Do you like salt?

After a very very long wait, I realized that the salt shaker must have been dropped on my food. My companion's food was lukewarm. So they nuked it to heat it up. I was very disappointed and will not return.
