Top notch place
Great tacos, very good margaritas. I wouldn't go for the entrees.

Disagree with previous reviewers
Sorry, but this place doesn't deserve the reviews it's gotten. The food was mediocre at best, the portions are small and expensive, and the waiter managed to screw up everyone's order in a party of 5. And this was at lunch time... no wait... there were only two other people there. Oh, and don't get me started on the sangria...

A refreshing take on tacos
This is the place to go for a plate of over-priced $3 wonton-sized delicious tacos. Think Tapas. One plate of 3 tiny tacos is about $9, but the taste is great. Definitely not standard tacos. Mercadito tries to put a harmonious balance of flavors in each variety of taco. There's always something fruity or sweet along with salty. A nice blend of tastes. Go very early on a weeknight to get a table without waiting.

Great Mexican in the City!
For awhile, I have been under the impression that good mexican and New York just didn't go together. Fear not- Mercadito is amazing! Very unique menu... great for sharing. My brother and I split the guacamole sampler, the shrimp tacos and a whole fish special- all were delicious, and easily washed down w/ tasty margaritas. Service was attentive and our waitress was extremely helpful. Be prepared to wait or go early!

A piece of heaven on Avenue B
This is an amazing little place that is worth the wait every time. They don't take reservations, but you can call an hour or so ahead and get on the list, which cuts down your waiting time (and the owner always throws in a free drink if the wait is really long and you are nice). The tres citricos margarita has a wonderful kick to it, and the ceviche and tacos are superb, especially the baja tacos. If going in a group, order the ceviche sampler and a variety of tacos to share. Go. Ahora.

Exceptional
One of the best finds in the city. A jewel. Inventive cuisine with attention to each plate, intelligent servers, and the only authentic tacos in the city. Mahi-mahi ceviche is outstanding, as is the Yucca Margarita.

Very original and good, but small
The food was excellent.. the complementary guacamole (complementary b/c we had to wait 45 min for our table despite calling 1.5 hours in advance) was original and fresh, the salmon ceviche was so good that the fish almost tasted like butter, and all the tacos were excellent. The waitress was extremely knowledgable about the menu, which is always nice, and the margaritas are fabulous and strong. Only problem would be for anyone that normally eats big portions, because these are all tiny tiny.
