    Cozy, authentic mexican

    Worth the wait, great tacos. Trio of Guacamole tasting is stupendous. Staff was eager to assist and casual atmosphere made great for enjoying real spicy mexican cuisine. Take it from a chicana- you will not be disappointed. Margaritas are overwhelmingly tasty and will not hurt your pockets. Highly recommended!

    Like A Can of Sardines

    The food here is inspired. I haven't had one thing that I didn't absolutely love. In particular, try the barbecued lamb taco. The service is very good, the staff is knowledgeable and their reccomendations are reliable. What detracts from this culinary Shangrila is the cramped seating arrangement. Come on guys, hike up your prices if that's what it takes, and put more space between tables! New Yorkers may live in tiny quarters, but that doesn't mean they want to eat in cramped spaces too! Last night my friend and I were seated at a small table and we managed ok, but imagine my shock when a trio was seated right on top of us at a table of the same size! And when they left, another trio replaced them. I'm over the dining experience at Mercadito, but when they devise a delivery menu, I will be one of their best customers.

    Great place, usually...

    I really like this place. I've been several times and always had a good meal. While their menu states that they deliver up to 11pm, don't count on it. Sometimes they dont adhere to that.

    Best bites of my life

    Ok so maybe I was a little "spacey" the first time I went, but the four delicate little shrimp tacos that were placed before me were among the best-tasting things I have ever consumed. No joke. The second time I went I arrived sober and I must say the tilapia tacos, while not quite as amazing as the shrimp, were still an incredible taste-plosion. The margarita's were also excellent. Don't go to Mercadito expecting cheap taco bell bullcrap. Sure it's pricey, but so?

    Snobs at the door

    This is the kind of Mexican food place where the hip host/hostess will look you up and down before asking for your name. Hilarious that so many people seem to put up with it.

    High Priced Mexican Food is Plum Dumb

    Went for lunch and ended up paying close to 70 bucks for mini "white castle tacos", guacomole, and rice and beans. When you are paying 13.50 for tacos at lunch time, don't charge an extra 5 bucks for the rice and beans. Its mexican food! Filling, oversized potions! The small amount that I got was good but not mind blowing. It's a shame.

    Learn how to dine

    So.....to all of you out there complaining about portions and price....a little hint. You live in NYC. Nothing is cheap. And if it is, it's usually for a reason. The food here is amazing. Period. Americans are used to Wal-Mart portions, and don't understand what it truly means to DINE and eat a 4 or 5 course meal. You can't have huge portions and do 4 courses, or you won't get past 2 courses. And it's the chef's responsiblity to make sure those 5-8 bites, or whatever, in each of those courses are damn delicious. And this chef does. The decor is beautiful in this place. The designer really brought out the place's character. Yes, it's tight & compact.....it's the east village. We got along quite well with our waiter, he was very knowledgable, and polite. At the end of the meal we were given a select tequila on the house. To put it bluntly....with every single bite I took I was continually impressed.....and the margarita's are badass.
