    great place

I agree with the below post, dont listen to the bad reveiws! this place is tapas so the portions are small but a well thought out and creative menu justifies the portions vs the price. everything was delicious. i recommend the braised pork tacos or the shrimp avacado tacos. maragritas are amazing as well. have been a bunch of times and def will return.

    Great spot great mojitos!

Went here a few weeks ago with one of my girlfriends and loved it. Since it was a busy and crowded Sat. night and we had no rez, we just dined at the bar and got excellent service. The owner even bought us a round of drinks! The guac is amazing, as were the other dishes we had (fish tacos was one of them). Mojitos are awesome - nice and strong. Great east village spot. Will be back for sure.

    Overall Disappointed

I went to Mercandito Friday night with a few friends. The restaurant is tiny, cramped and overcrowded. We waited at the bar for over an hour for our table. People were constantly knocking into us. The restroom is right next to the bar, therefore creating a horrible odor the whole time. The male host who took our name and seated us was extremely rude and obnoxious. When we finally did get seated we were asked to hurry up and order b/c they said that they could have used our table for someone who was ready to order. The food was mediocre and very small portions. Overall an unpleasant experience. I would not recommend to anyone.

    extremely disappointing

Substandard food, overpriced, over-hyped. Good for tourist or for girls-on-diet who feel good about eating appetizer-sized dishes at entree prices. That's deplorable because the place has a nice cozy feel to it and is not as noisy as most Mexican places. Here is a more detailed list of reasons why I wont go again, first the food: their ceviche effectively drowns any distinguishable seafood flavor in a mix of onions, herbs and spices: you could replace pulpo, dorade etc. with popcorn and it would still taste the same. The tacos pastor come with a weird hot-n-sweet flavor that Mexicans hopefully have not yet been troubled with. The entree of my companion was served by the time I had mine finished, and can be described as the chef's pathetic attempt at creating something fancy and original (I actually forgot the name of the dish already). We were not even asked once about how we liked the food. But the waitresses were definitely good-looking.

    Awesome Food, Great Service

Had a reservation for 6 people and showed up with 8 - we ended up having to wait a while at the bar, but the manager went out of his way to make sure we were having fun and sent us drinks and appetizers to make up for the wait - we enjoyed ourselves at the bar, and the food was totally worth the wait. Did the tasting menu, which was a great deal for delicious guacamole, ceviche, tacos and dessert. Would definitely go back. Great atmosphere, wonderful food, and the service was so gracious. Made for a great night, despite the wait, which was admittedly my fault for not adjusting the reservation.

    Amazing!

The margaritas are phenomenal and unique while the bloody mary is made with quality tequila vs. vodka...a wonderful twist on an old brunch favorite. The food is fresh and tasty...servings are small but it's tapas-style. Don't listen to the poor reviews. One of the best Mexican joints around town!

    I love it!

I couldn't disagree more with some of the reviews here. I've been going to Mercadito since it first opened, and absolutely love it. It is definitely worth trying. The ceviches, and .... all of the dishes, are a feast in your mouth. I really don't care that they are bite size, that makes it even more fun and interesting. Yes, you will pay New York prices at this restaurant, but the fresh ingredients, drinks, nachos, and overall experience are well worth it. I'd definitely recommend it.
