will go again!!
Loved the food and ambiance...try the fish tacos..we ordered chilaquiles also and drinks. I can't remember one of the tacos was so so...I think the tacos de carne was not so great..as if they cooked it w/soy sauce... Everything else was fantastic! GO and try it

amazing!
the food is amazing at this place! the shrimp tacos are to die for and they have an amazing all you can eat taco deal after 10 pm. The service is great! the people are very helpful when you ask questions. Their mojitos are filled with amazingly fresh fruit! go here its a must!

love the food
I love the food, especially the ceviche and tacos. The drinks are also very good, and the atmosphere is quite lively. I would advise any prospective customer to sit in the front, because the back smelled like a bathroom the last time I went.

authentic great mexican!
i have now been to mercadito about a half a dozen times and think this place is great! the food is wonderful, using great flavors and everything is super fresh! the magaritas are my favorite, especially the mango with the fresh chucks of fruit. the only negative is the slightly funky smell, other than that would be my favorite mexican place in NYC!

Good Food
I've only been here once so far and really enjoyed the food. The night I went, I must have come at the perfect time because I didn't have to wait long for a table. The food was brought out slowly. We ordered some cold appetizers, which came out quick, but the things that needed to be cooked too longer. We eventually cancelled the rest of our order and asked for the check, but we were full and the food was delicious. (I'm hoping to go there again very soon!)

poor service experience
My husband and I are still in shock over the quality of service at this establishment. We have never experienced such rudeness and unprofessionalism in the restaurant business. We waited patiently for our table and then out of nowhere the manager told us our name was never on the list and it would be a major wait for a table. The manager's behavior was so out of the norm, we did not know what to take of it. We were thoroughly taken aback by the snobbery of the manager and of the bar tender who seemed to have turned off after we asked him to make a drink he'd never heard of.

Average food
We really wanted to like this place because we live nearby. The back room is sweet and the service is nice, but sadly the food is average at best. We started with the traditional guacamole which was way over salted and needed more acid and more seasoning. Even the juice from the limes wedges that came with our beers was not enough to redeem it. Too salty is just too salty! Then we shared the mariscos salad. They should tell you that this seafood salad is served warm it's ok, but there was way too much dressing, drowning the greens and wilted mesclun greens are a bit weird. The taste was ok, but the shrimp and scallops are tiny. I had a Berkshire pork taco special which was too dry and under seasoned while my boyfriend had the chili rellenos which was the same seafood from the salad smothered in cheese and crema. He said it was average at best. I did, however, love the Refresco De Fruta which I had in mango. If only it were worth going back for that alone...
