Missing Salad Items
Order a salad and two of the six ingredients were missing. The staff was unhelpful and took a very long time in rectifying the order. Refused to replace salad instead sent the missing items an hour later. This is very disappointing as many people have been happy with them.

Passable for ordinary lunch or dinner- Don't make any special trips
Do not make any special trips for this average deli. If you are looking for an authentic Kosher deli, please head over to other kosher delis, which blow Mendy's out of the water. The strictly kosher, however, may have to deal with Mendy's because while the food at others is kosher, those establishments are open on the Sabbath, and thus, do not get strick kosher certification. Let me explain why Mendy's does not get any better than average: in sum, it does not focus on or take pride in the quality of its deli. As an initial matter, It inexplicably makes sushi (and does it poorly) and a number of other dishes that have no place in a deli. Further, the retaurant and its related stands at Grand Central and elsewhere aren't particularly clean or their displays appetizing. The staff, incidentally, is dressed sloppily. The meat it uses in its sandwiches is second or third rate. It seems to me that Mendy's is more interested in bottom line than reputation for quality, and their success is reflected in the number of stores they have. However, their success is due to shrewd business, placing restaurants in areas where high concentrations of Orthodox Jews live or work. They are "captive" customers if they want kosher deli.

Avoid
The food was not good and it's expensive to boot! The dining area is unattractive, I could not wait to get out of there.

Pastrami is Horrible.
I got the Pastrami there a couple of times and eash time i get it. It is dry, fatty and stringy. Yuck! The chicken gumbo is very good at mendys though. They do have that. I recomend it. Just dont go for the Past.

Have the Split Pea Soup !!!!
A great place for lunch or a better than casual dinner. The service was very friendly and fast. The split pea soup is amazing, and I had the Broiled Roumanian Tenderloin Steak , which comes smothered in onions. So good!

awesome corned beef and pastrami!
I really like corned beef and I really like pastrami. I've eaten it all over the place including two other very big names in NYC. I'd have to say I liked Mendy's on 33rd the best. It is extremely tender so you don't get any stringy parts. It's melt in your mouth. Everything is just right. Get combo of both on the sandwich. This place is a little expensive but similar to the prices at other quality delis. The pickle is gross and soft, who likes sour pickles?

The Best Salads
I'm not even kosher but I will never go anywhere else for my choose your own ingredients salads. They have the largest selection of meats and vegatables. All fresh and delicious. They even have pastrami and corn beef as meat topping choices. Plus edamame and hearts of palms. Excellent value too. Whether you are kosher or not you MUST go to Mendy's for their fresh, delicious , very hearty salads. Oh yeah the portions are HUGE too!
