    Poor experience

My wife and I just went here for restaurant week. After reading some of the reviews here I was expecting the worst but nothing could have prepared me for this! The restaurant is nice, or I should say, used to be nice. It looks like it could use a sersious makeover but I wouldn't have cared about any of that if the food would have been decent. For the appetizer I got the tempura asparagus. It was ok but did not taste like any tempura I've ever had. The batter or crust was similar to outer coating of a jack and jill ice cream bar. My wife got the fried shrimp. I'm allergic to them but she said they were the same in quality as a take out Chinese place. Now onto the entrees. I had the kobe beef. It was good but nothing mind blowing and it was an appetizer portion for the main course. I was just happy that it was restaurant week since the regular menu price on that is $45. At least it tasted good though which is more than I can say about my wife's sushi tasting. I am not exaggerating when I say that we have had better sushi from multiple take out places throughout the city. It was terrible and my wife couldn't even finish it. Very dry and did not taste even remotely fresh. The desserts were also very unmemorable. I couldn't finish the green tea crepe and I was starving by this point. We ended up leaving here and grabbing a snack on the way home. I've lived in New York for over 10 years and can honestly say this is the most disappointed I've ever been with a meal.

    Mediocre food, overpriced poor service

My husband ordered a salad and asked what kind of lettuce? Waiter said Romaine; salad was mesculan. $38.00 salmon appetizer was too cold and very salty. Fried rice came out after the meal. Sushi was tastless

You have got to be kidding me

I go out in Manhattan a lot or I should say we. My wife and I love a great dining experience. We live in the city, love the city, asked friends of ours to come out in the city. Never tried Megu in all my years here and went last week with a group of 10 people. Now I am all for a great time and it was a good time on a Friday night. We drank like everyone else, got to catch up with friends of old and friends of new but never did I imagine that I would get a bill that shocked me like that did. I don't mind paying and I know my friends didn't but for what I went for during a Restaurant week menu was absurd. We got the $35 dollar price fix and all ordered another appetizer or roll for each person but the end result was so not worth it. I have lived in Manhattan for the last 10 years and now the art of the buyback is gone. I did have a good time but I they charged us for everything. So basically I ate like a bird and drank like a fish, supposedly. I would have went to a steak house for $350 a couple on a Friday night with friends for the amount of food I was served. I was disappointed in a few ways. Good food for the 5 bites I had, nice crowd, poor value and the service was take it or leave it. It didnt blow me away and I would take my $$ elsewhere sometime.

    ...

If you are into a restaurant for the decor, then this is the restaurant for you. Other than the decor and the an good sake menu, the restaurant disappoints across the board. Service was uneven. None of the eight dish tasting menu plus the "chef sushi supplement" were neither memorable nor original. I can go on and on but will not. For the price one pays here ($175), there are a plethora of other restaurant in the city where you can enjoy both the decor, service, and food.

    Great Food, Terrible Service

The food at Megu was delicious; I enjoyed everything they put out on the table. I was extremely disappointed with the service. They were slow, rude, pretentious and non-attentive. It was frustrating to pay so much for such bad service. If they can improve the service, the restaurant will be a real winner.
