used to be great
when MEE first opened on 9th/53rd it rocked! service was excellent, food was amazing, free wine, fast takeout. NOW, while the food (eat in) is still a good bargain, the service is pathetic, the delivery slow, mistakes constantly made and rude responses when correction needed. the customer stopped being "right" along time ago here! they have never renovated the space and it looks dingy & is. skip the restroom. i used to adore this place...it was a step up in the hood. now its 2 steps down. try empire szechuan on westside and chinatown east on eastside.

Respectable!
MEE has an extensive menu and I really appreciate the homestyle options, just like what my dad used to cook for us. It's also difficult to find Cantonese cooking outside of Chinatown, it's my kind of comfort food. Is it the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to? No. But MEE is a good go-to spot in this neighborhood. And I felt like it wasn't getting a fair shake because of all the bad reviews here, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

To go or not to go.
The food looks appealing but when I tasted my baby shrimp with rice it was really salty with lots of sauce. My best friend had the sesame chicken and he says "it was way too sweet".My won ton soup was salty with what I call "mystery meat" but others at my table their soup was fine.It wasn't packed, food came quick, and the waiter was ok.Cheap prices the lunch menu until 5pm.I would not recommend the food I had, or maybe my food was overly salted and normally it wouldn't be? I dont know because I'm not a regular there. So you decide.

Decent Chinese Spot in Midtown
The menu is huge and the selections are decent with mix of all sorts of dishes. The price is great and the food is tasty overall. They have all the Americanized dishes you would normally find elsewhere and they even have some traditional dishes as well. I would not say it authentic chinese, but the style of cooking and flavor is as authentic you would get given its location and the crowd it caters to. I would recommend this restaurant.

Great Soup with a Smile Too!
The plain soup is absolutely the best there is, especially as winter kicks in. What is amazing is the friendly attitude of the waitstaff: how uncommon is that in this type of place. It's a homey, welcoming little place that satisfies every time.
