fun night out, great service
My husband and I enjoyed dinner at Maz Mezcal Wednesday night. The restaurant was welcoming and our server, Israel, answered our questions and fulfilled all of our requests (my husband likes to go off script and ask for things not exactly on the menu). The gentleman who refilled the water always kept our glasses >50%, and we drink A LOT of water. The special Margaritas Israel recommended were delicious. The food wasn't greasy and portions were perfect. I thought the decor was fun and appropriate for a Mexican place. The restaurant was loud mostly due to other patrons allowing their children to bang things on the table. Overall we will return.

brutal
25-30$ for enchiladas that were DRENCHED in a mud-puddle of mole sauce that tasted like liquified hershey bars. Sloppy, gross. Soft, soggy. Embarrassing. Expensive.

Fair to Sub Par
Got delivery. Food was okay. Girl on the phone, I had to repeat each and every thing I said. I asked for a house salad along with my arroz con pollo and I'm still trying to figure out what she sent me.

Authentic Mex on the UES
I've been coming to Maz Mezcal since 1977 when it was in a different location and called El Sombrero. For 30+ years their food has been consistently good. Their green salsa which is dispensed in generous portions along with fresh made chips is more addicting than I image crack would be. I have a list of regular dishes that I rotate when I make my bi-monthly schlep to the UES. I could live, I do believe, on their Sangria which is hand made by the glass but I'd recommend a pitcher because WHO in their right mind drives in NYC; their chips & salsa verde and their nachos. However woman does not live on fruity drinks & snacks alone. My favorite dish by far is the Tanque Verde Burritos, ample rolled pockets of thinly sliced pork, simmered in a delicately delicious sauce from tomatillos, onions and secret spices. My 2nd favorite dish would be the arroz con pollo. Cooked to perfection, saffron rice with nice chunks of white meat chicken, balanced by some vegetables thrown in and all simmered in a sauce. For dessert, I'd suggest the flan accompanied by the secret coffee made in a brandy glass with orange slices, tequila, brandy and cinnamon. Maz Mezcal is our go to place for family dinner even though our children and now grown and scattered across the world, when they come home - our home cooked meal is at Maz Mezcal.

Viva Mexico
Finally. I found this to be the best ever. May be pricy but I bet their rent is even pricier. The food was fantastic and sevice incredible. Very friendly, good quality place. If you don't want to pay high prices stick to dumps like Taco Taco. The bathrooms are beautiful AND clean.

very average
food wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly good either. out of 4 dishes, we thought each one was just ok. bar area is very small, so if there's a wait before you can be seated, it's really crammed and uncomfortable.
