Excellent Mexican food
This is by far my favorite mexican restaurant in the city. The drinks are terrific and the appetizers alone can make for a great meal. The quality of ingredients and preperation are truely unique. I highly recomend this spot.

Authentic Mexican!!
After visiting a Mexican cooking school and spending the day cooking along side Mexican chefs in Puerto Morelos last year, I returned to NYC searching for some great authentic Mexican food. Maya is it! If your looking for 2 lb. stuffed burritos, chimichangas, or other nonsense this NOT for you. Mahi Mahi ceviche appetizer... fantastic !! refreshing citrusy, herbal cilantro notes and a kick of jalapeƱo. Corn tortillas are home made and are delicate and smell like roasted corn... and of corn, the roasted corn soup is fantastic . Tortilla chips were thick and up to the task of dipping on the freshly made guacamole... not greasy as other reviewer noted. Although pricey, will def return!!

If it only weren't so expensive!
It's true: drinks could be stronger and the whole experience can be very expensive but you won't be dissapointed. I went there last Friday for the 2nd or 3rd time (this time with 4 friends from work) and we had a great time. At the end, the bill got to be scary, but who cares, it's almost Halloween!

Overpriced, overrated
I took my girlfriend to this place cos she's an alcoholic and read up on their margaritas. Honestly, sucky weak margaritas. The apps were good but entrees sucked. I'd rather get a good bottle of wine and go to effing taco bell for a better experience

Best Mexican Food Ever
I've been to Maya several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. It is a little pricey so I only go on special occasions, but each time I go it's well worth it. Some of my favorites are the Tamal al Chipotle, Flautas, Enchiladas de Pollo, Mole Poblano, Tampiquena, and Huachinango (personally I like chicken and beef much more than seafood, so I haven't tried a lot of the seafood dishes to give an opinion but the red snapper was great). I've also tried their mango mojito, sangria, and limonada de fresa which are all quite tasty. And as a side note, Maya's sangria is the REAL DEAL! You're supposed to add a bit of brandy or hard liquor to real Sangria but most places are too cheap to do so. In spite of the price tag I really can't say enough good things about the food at Maya. Amazing food, great drinks, and nice staff. Aside from a slightly cheaper price tag, what more can you ask for?

Mediocre food, weak drinks
The plates were all done up and decorated well, but the food was mediocre. I can get the same quality at Blockheads for $20 versus $85 spent at Maya. We ate guacamole (pretty decent) and chowed on appetizers, all which arrived in a timely manner. However, someone must have hopped a train to Mexico and back to get the dinner. We had finished out appetizers and waited another 20 minutes before dinner arrived. Get appetizers (entradas) as your meal--you get more food for half the price (at least, that was the case with what we ordered...!). Waiter kept forgetting things and made up excuses, but was nice otherwise and accommodated my special request for a side of vegetables. Best thing about the meal was the mango mojito, though it was rather weak. Tasty, but not worth $12. Maybe I would have appreciate it more if it came in a pitcher.

Overpriced and Underseasoned
Have been looking for good Mexican food, and tried this place several times. Huge quantities of bland, starchy, and often overcooked food. Lots of cheap filler in the guacamole so that any taste of avocado is incidental, but the accompanying tortilla chips are so greasy you will hardly notice. Desserts are beyond sweet. Add cheesy decor, high noise level, and a staggering bill, and you have one really disappointing evening to remember. We're looking elsewhere.
