    Terrible for the NFl

There is a very good NFL special. Unfortunately, the favored team is the Baltimore Ravens. How do you explain that? The manager did not even try. He just changed stations with no explanation. Unless you are a Ravens fan, do not even think about going there on a Sunday. He should understand that this establishment is in New York City.

    GREAT food and GREAT value!!

Maxie's is excellent for several reasons. The food is delicious!! Same quality as the way more expensive Angelo & Maxie's, but at half the price! In my opinion, Maxie's has the best burger in the city. The menu is varied though, so if you're not with a burger lover, there are still plenty of amazing things to enjoy. All the salads and entrees are delicious, fries are great, and definitely save room for dessert!! Maxie's also has a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about the food! It's refreshing to see a place that doesn't sacrifice quality, at such reasonable prices. Check it out!

Not for the weight conscious BUT.....

....I like it! The burgers are good and the portions are generous to say the least. Try the fried pickles - very good. It's a little loud but that's ok. It's a much better deal than the main restaurant and has more casual options.

    Terrific Service

I'm not sure what happened with these other people, but I honestly think the service is sometimes the best thing at Maxie's. Every time (well 4 or 5 times) I've dined there my service was fantastic. Really friendly, answered any questions I had and they've even struck up conversations with me. The food is good, not out of this world, but I've never had a bad meal. And the price is definately perfect for my budget.

    overrated

So it was really apparent last night that either they were short staffed or they just give poor service to their customers. The food was not very tasty and the service was the worst I have seen in years - this is coming from a frequent restauranter. The food took nearly an hour to come to the table and the waiter kept insisting we order more appetizers. It was impossible to order drinks because the waiter would walk by our table and ignore us. Then when asked to elaboarate on the menu, he would not clearly explain anything and it seemed as though he was too busy to answer our questions. When the food finally arrived, at this point, our appetites had subsided, he never asked if we ok or needed anything. When it came to the bill, he was "too busy" with I am not sure what, because he nor any of the other servers definitely werent concerned about their patrons, he mixed up all the credit cards. When I tried to address the poor service, he ignored me. This place was such a disappointment.

    Surprisingly Poor Dining Experience

I should have known better cause I read the reviews, but as a former waiter I thought these were just isolated bad experiences. Here's why you shouldn't go to Maxie's... OK... We weren't greeted for the first twenty minutes we sat there. If there were specials we didn't hear them (no biggie), our water glasses sat empty for a half hour (it's 83 degrees out), and it wasn't busy enough for it to take twenty minutes to bring out our six drinks (one was a martini, the others all far less complicated.) The food would have been better if the dining experience wasn't so bad. The waitress had attitude, which only surprised me until we got the check and saw she had added an auto-gratuity on to our check (we were a party of six, and somehow I had glanced at the menu which mentioned gratuities being added to parties of eight or more.) At this point, she had no reason to think she wouldn't have been tipped well, and she probably would have, since no one in our party would like to make a scene. I thought it worth mentioning to a manager, as she clearly was giving herself a forty-five dollar tip she didn't deserve. HERE'S WHY I WON'T GO BACK: This manager had the people skills of a GM at Applebee's, and his fondness for the waitress overshadowed his attempt at an apology. Rather than acknowledging our unhappiness, he seemed to think we were trying to get something free out of him. He told us how he only hears good things about his waitstaff (I guess he doesn't read menupages), and told us what a hassle it would be to refund the money to our cards. I want to be clear, we weren't trying to get anything free. We just thought the service wasnt worth the eighteen or twenty percent she put on our check, and the manager didn't fix it. The waitress meanwhile stood engrossed in conversation at another table while we traded horror stories with a party of four also having a poor dining experience. We left unsatisfied and I won't return.

    It's the TVs!

After eating here and reading the other comments, I think I see what's happening. This place is very nice looking, but the damn TVs hanging on the walls showing various sports, are distractingto the waitrons as well as the clientele. So when business is a bit slow and the waitrons have time to waste, they look at the TVs instead of keeping an eye on the customers. Given human nature, I believe that this problem won't go away as long as the TVs remainand they will remain because they are part of what defines this place. Despite the erratic service I will come back for the food, the friendliness, andvery important to methe roominess of the whole place. Large tables, not on top of each other. You can eat like a human being. I value that.
