Nice place. Bad food.
I know sauce from a can when I eat it. I've been to Max twice now. Both times my food tasted like it was from a can. The sauce is gross. The plates are sloppy. The service is slow. Even my pasta was over cooked. This place has an amazing location and a nice atmosphere. But they need a real chef to transform the kitchen. Throw out the jars and cans and head down to the farmers markets and buy some real food.

great italian food!
this is a good italian place but the only downside is that they don't do reservations and there is not much space to sit/eat if you are a party of 3 or more. the food was good, not expensive!

Amazing Food, Poor Service
I order from Max at least once a week. My go-to dish is the Eggplant Rigatoni... AMAZING. I also, typically order their homemade soup of the day. My suggestion, order in dinner from here. The service is poor - long waits, rude servers, crowded small space, etc. Other than that - the food melts in your mouth.

Great Experience!
I was referred by a friend to try Max out for the lasagna. It was amazing! We also had the gnocchi which was very good. I highly recommend Max for solid, inexpensive italian food.

Great find in LES for pasta!
I've been coming here for the past few months and thought the pasta was really good and cheap. I love their caprese salad bc the mozzerella was very creamy. The pasta bolognese and the black linguine pasta were very tasty. Make sure to come early to avoid lines.

poor service
Our party of 10 was forced to wait for the last person to show. however, the worst part was getting a waiter to pay any attention to us once we all sat down. 35 mins after sitting they brought bread, and then it took another 45 to get the food. the server never came back to see if we wanted anything else, and it took them another 30 to bring the bill

Solid, inexpensive Italian
I've been to Max several times and have always had good food for reasonable prices. The black spaghetti with shrimp is delicious. I've also had the lasagna, which is also good, but occasionally burned. Overall, it's worth checking out for decent food, good prices, and a nice atmosphere.
