I personally can not stand hersheys for their very bland chocolates. This place is far from similar. The chocolate covered pralines are particularly great. The mexican hot chocolate is a favorite of mine as well.

Godiva prices for hershey's! MB is a wonderful idea , but the quality of the chocolate tastes just like Hershey's.

After being a "regular" at the 2nd Avenue store (as I live there), I figured I would try the Union Square location and it is amazing! It is truly like Willy Wonka's factory! I love this place! The chocolate is amazing and I had one of the best veggie burgers (not to mention service...who said the service is bad?). I recommend this place to anyone who lives in NY and/or visits! By the way, for those who live in the East Village, they have HAPPY HOUR at that location...what could be better - chocolate and booze?!

Kept waiting almost 10 minutes to be seated--only one other party eating there at the time, noisy--workers were nail gunning broken sofa constantly while we were there, food was unclean--sent back--was told was cooked in dirty pan, waitress did not come over to ask how things were, we had to flag down someone else to send back the food. Complained to management afterwards in e-mail, was insulted, called CEO, was ignored. Who needs this?

My friend and I tried Max's last night for dinner, after hearing about the enormous dessert menu, and felt that it was just okay. The regular food was nothing fantastic, the waiter messed up our order completely and once the food came it was something I could have made at home with a sandwich maker. The desserts all sounded wonderful, but they were nothing spectacular either. The chocolate pizza was interesting, but it tasted like Hershey's chocolate melted on sweet dough.

I stopped in here with a friend of mine on a whim. I love chocolate & had heard so much about the place. I ordered the chocolate heart cake. It was ok. But not great. Especially for the price. The waiter messed up by charging us for something that he forgot to even bring us! The atmosphere was pretty good though. It smells so sweet as you enter the door. But the place was packed. It would probably be a great place for men to meet women, as it's 90% women. Although most of the waiters were male & stood right by our table to eavesdrop on our conversation...rude! I don't care how interesting our conversation is, you don't need to listen. Guess they felt it was ok as we had to practically scream to hear each other over the crowds.

I have visited this restaurant twice. On my first visit, I was starving and just happened to stop in, knowing nothing about the menu. I ordered the kielbasa and saurkraut, and it was okay. The dessert menu is outrageous and I couldn't leave without trying it. A friend and ordered the chocolate fondue whic came with strawberries, banana's, marshmallows and banana bread. It also comes with milk, white and dark chocolate. This was soooooo good, that I ate until I got sick. Not to mention how much fun it was to roast our own marshmallows then soak them in chocolate. My second visit, I ordered the antipasti salad, which was HUGE and surprisingly good. Again, we ordered the same dessert. So in conclusion, the dinner menu gets about a 6, but the dessert alone makes this place worth the visit. Plus, it smells delicious!
