    On Par

I don't have many complaints about this restaurant; I love their food (I recommend their pizzas and crepes for dinner) w. their AMAZING waffle fries; you'll either hate or love their service (it depends on the waiter/waitress you get); and the atmosphere is just wonderful (couples love the candle-lit atmosphere & groups love the cheerful chatter). My only complaint is the tight seating. On the bottom floor, you'll feel like you're knocking elbows with the people to your left and to your right. There is no privacy to chat with your friend(s) when you're seated at the bottom level. But, overall, this place is MUCH better than average.

    self-important for what it is

this place really irritates me. I've been here a few times with girlfriends, and i always leave feeling that it's an overdone rip-off. If you are a chocolate fiend, i'm sure you can find satisfaction at a place like this, but as someone who enjoys sweets moderately, the intensity of chocolate is pretty over-the-top. Everything is over-priced, and i can't help be annoyed that Max Brenner has stuck his name on every bit of blank space in the restaurant. OK--you have a restaurant that specializes in chocolate, I DON"T CARE WHAT YOUR NAME IS! Overall, i'd say skip it, but most girls i know love it, so it may be worth tolerating to put a smile on one's face.

Mouth-watering in theory, a bit pricey in practice

I figured that going to a restaurant like this on a Saturday night in Union Square would be insane. At 8pm, surprisingly short wait (about 5 minutes) and the service was impeccably quick, friendly, and attentive. Dinner food was OKAY--not great--but good enough to prep you for dessert. The chocolate menu is so difficult to choose from, and I think the sheer variety of choice is what grabs people. While good stuff and a great idea in theory, the chocolate wasn't that distinct from something I'd order anywhere else and the prices were a bit high. However, the experience makes up for it a lot, I think. If you're into concept places like this, give it a try! It's certainly not a bad place to go, but you may not be blown away by the food.

    Yummy Sweet Tooth Satisfaction

After having walked by here millions of times, I finally checked this out w/ the hubby. Yes it was crowded & we had to wait about 20 mins (it was 5:30PM on a Saturday) but that’s to be expected at this type of event place. It was fun checking out all the stuff behind the candy counters while waiting. Once seated, we saw that actual tables more in the restaurant are rather nice, away from the crowd around the door. We split the Asian chicken noodle salad so we could save room for dessert – the salad was more crunchy noodles than veggies but it was pretty good. For dessert we ordered the chocolate fondue for 2 – we got dark & milk chocolate & caramel sauce over warmers, marshmallows, banana bread, strawberries, bananas & a personal grill for marshmallow roasting – all of this was absolutely scrumptious! It was so fun combining dipping sauces & roasting marshmallows. After we ran out of dippables, I started dipping my spoon for licking… I probably would’ve drank those sauces if the hubby hadn’t stopped me, LOL! I ordered a hot tea, which came presented on this whole pot/mug stage thing (the waiter’ll show you how to work it) w/ an okay biscuit… I think they must use special cups that don’t get hot on the outside because my cup stayed pleasant-feeling on the outside but the tea was scalding hot when I sipped it (so beware). Despite the heavy volume, the service was friendly & super-accommodating… we were actually on a time constraint & our waiter ROCKED as far as moving all our stuff along. What a treat overall! I look forward to visiting here again though I’m torn about whether or not to try something new or to stay w/ the beloved, delectable fondue.

    Cozy place for desert

Came here for desert at about 11 oclock at night. My bf and I were seated immediately at a very cozy table. I have read reviews that the service is somewhat lacking but despite how packed brenner's was, the service was impeccable. We didnt wait more then 5 minutes for anything. If you read the first page about max brenner and how he got to owning the chocolate shop you will see that he was partly influenced by the movie willy wonka and it is definitely noticeable. The atmosphere is very cozy and playful, the desert is delicious. We ordered one of the fondou choices with bananas, strawberries, marshmellows and banana bread with white chocolate dark chocolate and caramel as dips. This is an entree for 2 that is well worth it. The only negative i would give is that I wish it was a bit more lounge oriented then restaurant. We were seated a bit too close to another couple whose conversation was more then loud enough to hear. Would have preferred something a little more private. Other then that, top notch place. Definitely going to go there again when we have a craving for chocolate =]

    nice place to go

max brenner was a good experience. i went with a group of 5 of us over the summertime and it was busy like usual but we managed to get a table when everyone arrived. the server was pretty nice to us and explained what she can. some foods are better than others but then again tahts personal preference. i found the roasted chicken really dry, my friend has some penne pasta with peas and ham which is nothing special. another had the potatoes with ham or something and that was really salty, and another had salad. the food isnt anything special. but the desserts are! they will cost you your entree but its worth it bc its an experience that no other palce can emulate. for two, its romantic to have the roasting marshmallows etc. as a group, us 5 girls shared a platter of samplers i believe. its was decent. but the palce istelf is definitely overrated. good if youre in the neighborhood to grab a bite but not if you intentinoally come here planned.
