    Love this place!

Their food is just so delicious. I recently had the antipasti special, which was a plate full of delights! I've eaten here a number of times and it never disappoints.

    mediocre at best

chicken liver was blah...pasta overcooked...tomato sauce tasted like it was store bought...service was not much better, seemed upset we were not ready to order after holding menu for no more than two minutes. when i asked for a bit more time, different server appeared within 45 seconds and asked if we were ready. at this point we gave up and ordered on the fly. will never return

    cost cutting

Max's used to be fantastic but ever since last month they started to cut costs on food by using subpar ingredients. Their sandwiches have gone downhill. Even if you think it tastes good, who knows how they are cutting costs that you can not see.

    YUM

Have been here a few times, with a bit of time in between, and have always found the food to be delicious, abundant and very reasonabley priced. Small space yet comfortable setting. I look forward to returning, and intend to do so sooner rather than later.

    great neighborhood staple

in a neighborhood where most restaurants are way overpriced (whether worth it or not), max fills a void. the food is very good (not babbo, but hearty and delicious). It's a romantic, homey place that always leaves you satisfied. my wife and i order in at least once every 2 weeks. one of us usually orders either the pasta with meat sauce or the black spaghetti and shrimp. the other gets the breaded chicken. and we share. if you don't come expecting high, high end italian, you'll never be disappointed. it's comfort food at a great value.

    Great food, great price

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and are always looking for a casual place to have dinner. Max is a great addition to the neighborhood, it's good italian food at a very reasonable price. The pasta is home made and is always good.

    eh

i read the reviews here and perhaps they inflated my expectations, but i was thoroughly disappointed with my meal. i had a long day so i just wanted some comfort food - penne and meatballs - and i will say that it tasted like ragu sauce and, well, the meatballs were just bad. i got takeout so i cant really comment on the atmosphere... i guess it was cheap enough, and it came quickly, but it was just not tasty. the sauce was definitely from not made from scratch. so, i'll scratch another place off the list - i will definitely not return. anyone know an actual good italian place down here?!
