Not recommended
I went here with a work colleague for lunch, since Max's is relatively close to WTC. We try out several restaurants in the area and both the food and the service had to be among the poorest, especially when compared to neighboring restaurants. I ordered the special, which was a sundried tomato pasta with goat cheese in a pesto and arugula sauce. We waited over 30 minutes for the dish (which on a business lunch isn't the best). There were maybe four raviolis on the plate, covered in a chunky green sauce with nuts on top. If the poor presentation was the worst of it, things would have been fine, but it was unappetzing. I asked the waitress if I could send it back and have what my colleague was having. The manager came to speak with our table and said that nothing was wrong with the dish and that we would be charged full-price in addition to whatever else we ordered. Needless to say, my colleague asked for his to go and we left.

Recent experience
Order at Max consistently; unfortunately a recent experience has made it my last. They sent a bad batch of food, and when we called to complain, we didn't get a replacement but just excuses. Shame how some restaurants sometimes just don't get it.

Consistence, tasty and fresh!
I have only ever written once on a review page, and that was after a diabolical greek! This on the other hand requires the opposite acclaim. We are local and have only every been a few times, but get takeout at least once a week, their food is always fresh, prompt and most importantly very tasty. I must make a point of walking in and commending them on delivering steak and fish (two things i would never order delivery), to almost in restaurant quality. Love your food chaps - keep it up! Best take out in Tribeca

Some Hits - Some Misses
We live down the block from the Tribeca location & love Italian. There are couple of things on the menu that exceed expectations - Baccala al Forno is both well prepared and well worth the price; Polpettone (meatloaf) is good and was so ample a portion that we took home leftovers. The Hot AntiPasta is a fave rave of my husband. He also enjoys their pasta specials. Their Prosecco is just right! I'm not crazy about their tomato sauce, or their delivery (slow w/smaller portions) and the service can be lackadaisical. It's a small place and if you have the misfortune to get seated near the stroller set it can be most unpleasant. Since the staff kinda knows us they offer us a table in the small front window. Eat in a yea! Delivery a nay!

The portions are getting......
smaller. much smaller. live v. close in the 'hood and do really like their pasta dishes, however, when you order take out/delivery the portions have become a bit embarrassing, especially given that it's just pasta. Let's Go Max, step it up w/ the portions pls, I'll judge how fat i'm getting, not you....

Good place
I like the food, but it is the only Italian restaurant in NYC that charges for parmesan cheese if you order delivery...totally short sited.
