More than just Sushi
Would recommend this place for those who want more than just sushi. Black cod was excellent. Duck was good, but a little fatty. The sauces are flavorful and dishes are presented nicely. Sushi is pretty standard - just your basic rolls. If you like "Designer" rolls don't come here. Beware, drinks are tiny. I ordered a Jack and Coke that came in what looked like a 4 oz glass. Of course at $11 it was the same price as most standard sized drinks.

plain and simple..
Plain and simple... matsuri is one of (if not the) greatest japanese restaurants in Manhattan. The sushi is great... but I can't even remember the last time I had sushi here, due to the rest of the items on the menu. Literally everything on the menu is great. And the new hot pots... jesus christ. Come here... try the sushi, but think outside the box and order something new..

To Die For
I'll cut to the chase, this is the best sushi I've ever had. The fish is so fresh, it's like an orgasm from mouth stimulation. The first time I went, the service seemed impeccable, but I was on a 1st date, was totally nervous, and couldn't wait to pounce the girl I was with, so who knows. I went recently and the server whispered the whole time and didn't seem to know much about the menu. I would absolutely recommend this place, but if it's your treat, make sure you either really like the person you bring, have fat pockets, or are just aching for the best sushi in town.

Pretty place for boring people
Matsuri overall is a good restaurant and the service is great. Wasnt feeling the atmosphere though, filled with boring people for a Sat. Sushi was pretty good and the prices are descent. No bar scene, but if you're looking for a nice quiet dinner, this place will do.

Good overall, service is sketchy
Oh, what a difference going at prime time makes! We went for dinner last Friday night, and while it's not packed since it's summer, our waiter was rushed and didn't give us enough attention. I ordered my salmon rare, and it came back well done. May as well be a different dish altogether! The other experience I had there was fantastic, went on a Sunday night and ordered sushi a feast for the eyes and palette. Yum! So I will return ... just not on a weekend night!

highly recommended.
I lived in Japan half of my half and the other half in NYC. To me, everything counts when it comes to Japanese food. If I don't like it overall, it's not that I decide never to visit again, but I simply FORGET IT EXISTS. For some reason I remember Matsuri and will consider going back. I would tell you... don't go so that I'll have all the space, service and food to myself when I do!!! Haha

What the hell!?!
When you first enter, you see many ball sacks up in the air. The atmosphere is calm, soothing and serene. The staff rushes you to leave. Great for birthday occasions, group gatherings, and perhaps a romantic date. If you want ample time, don't bother. A woman will rush you out if you're not ordering anything. She'll come to your table every 5 minutes asking if you're ready to order even if you told her you're not ready and waiting for your party to arrive. The food was amazing, the prices were not. We ordered a party dish of sushi for 80 dollars that you could have bought elsewhere, for the same freshness half the price. The service was poor, dismal and pushy. But they will seat you promptly. Food is great, service is dismal, parking is hell but hey, try it once.
