Tasty tasty!
Try to order the special rolls! That is where Matsu is at his forte. You can order from the menu, or ask him to make his own rolls. The Omekase (chef's choice) is also great (but prices start at 20+). Just told the chef to make his own creations i.e. his many "No-Name rolls" and i've loved everyone of them. Best is to tell the chef one day ahead of time so he can stock up on goodies. His wife and other crew is also very friendly! A true neighborhood hangout gem. You can tell by the responses of the people (who've had their polaroids shots taken) that Matsu is much loved and has quite a contingent of regulars. For other basic cheaper rolls, this not the place to really go. Go with the specials and special rolls or have the chef make his own. You will NOT regret it!

What's the deal?
I'm so confused, I read all these super duper reviews and this place did not live up to expectations. The fish overall was not so fresh, and holy mackarel, the hairy fishy was not good. Not sure what the deal is, the place is cheap, but that's about the only positive. We got the white tuna appetizer and it was frozen when you bit into it. I don't usually get a brain freeze from sushi. Nice server, very pleasant, place can best be described as good for takeout in terms of decor. There were handy copies of Vanity Fair, Vibe and Stuff magazine hanging from the wall which was convenient for my wife. Overall, very mediocre.

Great sushi!
We order take out from Matsu all the time. It's fast, cheap and delicious. Definitely better than the more expensive options in the neighborhood. A MUST try!

Great Neighborhood Sushi Find
Very small restaurant with maybe 6 tables and a few seats at the sushi bar. Has a great local feel when u walk in. The chef is real friendly and makes u feel at home. Service is great, very fast and very friendly. Food is very good, great special rolls. Price i would say is avg, definitely not expensive but not extremely cheap. Overall, i eat here once a week and it never disappoints.
