    Come for value

It's not the best sushi on the upper east side, let along nyc, but it is one of the most affordable ones (the other one being Yuka in the 80s) in the area. I went for lunch with a friend and ordered chirashi. The portion was kind of small but the fish was fresh and service was great. The place is tiny so be prepared to sit elbow to elbow.

    Innovative and delicious sushi

One of the best sushi restaurants i have been to. (and i have been to many....as i dine out 5 to 6 times a week). matsu is by far one of the most innovative and delicious suhi restaurants around. and its very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. ask about the daily chef creations -- always hits the spot. the service is friendly and staff are always curteous. the place is small but very clean and intimate. it is one of those gems in the city that every foodie should make a pilgrimage. you will not be disappointed!

    Sushi gone wild!

No joke--best sushi in the city. Don't even think about going to Matsu w/o trying the mussel appetizer, toro wasabi, & seared white tuna. And if you are into rolls, the Sex on the Beach will get you going while the Mount Fuji will make your tastebuds climax. I just can't get enough of this Sushi Palace of Heaven.

    The best sushi in NYC

I go "home" to Matsu about once a week not only for the EXCELLENT spicy tuna (also try the tuna tartar with mango--it's unreal!) but also for the very personalized service. Gary is the chef and his wife is one of two waitresses. They truly care about their customers and every dining experience at Matsu has been a pleasant one! Japanese music is played lightly in the background and that really sets the mellow tone of this little gem.

    Cornell kids know...

The sushi here is fantastic!...you must try the spicy yellowtail and spider rolls. The service is excellent and the value can't be beat on the UES. Very little seating, so takeout is the best option, and don't even try getting in there for lunch! Overall, a top fav for sushi on the upper east side!

    Gotta give Matsu a try!

Matsu is the best kept sushi secret of the upper east side. The fish is always fresh, and the sushi chefs make a mean roll! (The best sex on the beach in town!) The waitstaff makes everyone feel like a regular. The prices are very reasonable for a great sushi meal. All in all you can not go wrong with Matsu.

    Fabulous Sushi!

Matsu is great. It is a small neighborhood sushi place w/great service and great food. The chef is willing to make anything you'd like, and the staff remembers you each time you walk in. Ask for a fried oyster roll! It is better than Yama's and Sushi of Gari's! The fish is always soft and fresh, and the prices absolutely can not be beat for this quality and quantity of food! Try this place before it's impossible to get in!
