    Fantastic, but not authentic Japanese

Crowded, but extremely fresh fish. Not surprising, as their turnaround appears to be high. Judging from my fellow diners, most order some iteration of fish. My basic tuna-based selections were excellent. The language spoken by the waitstaff is Chinese, which they freely admit to being. Japanese who find this unacceptable to them should stay away (thus leaving table space for those of us without such pretensions). 4 stars.

This place is consistent! Food is good-eat in or take out. Service is good. Best Japanese in the area that we have been to-we haven't been to them all. Once we found Matsu, we stuck with it. If it's crowded, it's noisy. Go early if you want a quiet dinner.

    Chinese masquerading as Japanese

Because I live upstate I rarely get to eat good Japanese food. I had an appointment on the upper east side around lunchtime, so consulted menupages for a good place to eat. What is up with American provincialism? This highly rated restaurant is not serving Japanese food! When I first ordered, the waitress couldn't understand my Japanese, and when I said, "Oh, you don't speak Japanese" she answered that she spoke Spanish. But of course she was speaking Cantonese Chinese (which I also speak) to the other staff and the sushi chefs, who also spoke Chinese. The cod was swimming in miso on the plate, not marinated; the yakko also swam in a sweet soy concoction, and lacked ginger and daikon. Even the sushi rice was far too vinegar-y. I had so looked forward to a special Japanese meal, what a shame. I just wish they didn't masquerade as something they are not. The fish was fresh, the food not bad, but it is not Japanese food.

    Delicious Sushi! Mmmmm!!!

Gary the host is worth coming in just to talk to. His expertise and suggestions make for the most memorable sushi dinners! Both my girlfriend and I look forward to coming here to enjoy as well as ordering to our apartment. Please try. You won't be disappointed!

    Never disappointed

I have never been inside this place, but I order from here at least three times a week for work. Their lunch specials are amazing. It is always fresh, warm and delivered in a timely matter even during lunch time. I highly recommend ordering from this place.

The fish was bad! 2 out of the 9 pieces were bona fide spoiled (as in I had to spit it out) and another 2-3 pieces were just about to go bad (read: smelly, lost texture). I can't believe this place has good reviews. NOT a good value. At least they put pretty flowers in your deliver and they were fresh. Too bad the fish wasn't.

    Amazing Sushi

Fresh and tasty sashimi. The fish is great and nice pieces and a wonderful value. The peppered tuna is amazing. This is a must go for a neighborhood sushi place.
