My favorite Ethiopian restaurant in NY
The shrimp tibsi here is incredible - a must-try. I have brought numerous friends here and they are all loved it as, well. The atmosphere is not particularly fancy (but at least the lighting is evening-appropriate) and the wine isn't the best, but the food is so fantastic that we go often.

There are better Ethiopian places around
The place is average. The food is not so great. Specially the vegetables and the chicken didn't taste very well. Other Ethiopian places I have tried are much better in terms of quality and variety. If you are trying the cuisine for the first time, maybe you should consider some place else.

Good, reliable, enjoyable Ethiopian
I have eaten in about ten Ethiopian restaurants and six times at Massawa and I find that they are reliably one of the best restaurants of its genre. In addition, they have that wonderful honey wine and serve it generouosly. I go with friends, relatives and business associates and all have enjoyed their meal. The menu has the usual assortment of meats and fish and vegetables on injira, always well prepared and generoous portions. The service is quick and courteous but not intrusive and the staff tends to have a quiet charm. They appear to be quality people. The decor is a little better and the environment a little more comfortable than the other Ethiopian restaurants I have tried and the washrooms were clean. There is nothing that makes me say "Wow!" but also no problems.

Great service
the food was ok. I have eaten at many Ethiopian restaurants and find their food just ok. The service was excellent. I took my wife for lunch and the waitress was very helpful and I must say also very beautiful. My wife caught me staring at the waitress. But the waitress kept on smiling and pouring some of that good Honey wine.

Best Ethiopian food in the city
The "Special Shiro" dish is to die for, though I'm a bit disturbed by the number of cockroaches I've seen in the restaurant. But the food is so good I'm willing to look the other way.

Great food, sketchy delivery
LOVE the food. Delivery is sketchy. Once we were told the delivery guy hadn't shown up for his shift and they didn't know when they could get it to us (actually appreciated the honesty). Another time we called after 1.5 hours to be told the order hadn't even been made up yet (also appreciated the candor). Another time the person answering the phone didn't speak english well wnough to take the order and hung up on us. The food is great though, just don't order when you're super hungry and need the food asap.
