small portions - food okay
We had dinner at Massawa 2 nights ago. It was not our first time there but we were so disappointed with the food. The portions were really small. We ordered beef and vegetable combo and ended up with 2 tablespoons of vegetable. Left the restaurant hungry. We won't go back, we'd rather have ethiopian food at Ethio.

One of the best in the area 4 veggies
The service is like most Ethiopian restaurants; laid back, just like the people. However their Shiro & Greens rock! I've tasted other veggies that were ok but those are the ones that impress me. I'm an Ethiopian food fiend & I have been blessed to have eaten it in cities like DC, MD, VA, LA & NY. My current favorite is in Brooklyn. PS., You will score points with the waitstaff if you acknowledge that they are Eritrean.

Ok Ethiopian food
I've tried Ethiopian food at two other places in the city; the food here was ok. I tried four vegan dishes (I'm not vegetarian), but the Shiro was very delicious; the other three were ok. The honey wine was good, but I've had better. Place is crowded, many others seem to like it!

Delicious food, but overpriced
The food is extremely delicious and I always find myself wanting to go back, but the prices are a bit much. There are better deals elsewhere, but if you are looking for specifically Ethiopian food, it is a good place.

Dissappointed
I've never had Ethiopian food so I chose this place because of the good reviews and the "A" rating. I was looking forward to a wonderfully flavored, warm and spicy Ethiopian meal. Instead I got food that was a little cold, bland and boring. Waitstaff was equally bland - our server showed no emotion, offered no advice or info about the menu and choice of dishes. Granted our waitstaff seemed painfully shy but a little enthusiasm would have helped! To make matters worse, the food was a little pricey and I was hungry 2 hours later! Best things on the menu were the beef patties (appetizer), the Honey Wine and the NY Cheesecake. Too bad - I had hoped to become a regular diner at Massawa.

Yum
Food is great! Try the Ethiopian honey wine. Service isn't the best.
