worth going to
Four of us dined here last evening. We all did the four course pre-fixe, but they offer a 6 course chef choice as well. I was very pleased with the food as well as the service, as several of the servers all gave great suggestions. I had the heirloom tomato tart, sweet corn and scallop soup, and the cornmeal crusted soft shell crab ( perfectly cooked ) For desert we had the salted caramel ice cream with hazelnut and chocolate mousse, and I also tasted a glacee with fruits and sorbet that was wonderful. Great place to dine with friends with which one has great conversations, as the dining experience can last a bit with a pre-fixe (which I love). I will go again. $120 per person including wine (a bottle of Montgomery place red blend) and 22%tip.

A Must....
While we all have different taste and expectations--I'd have to say, Mas is one of my favorite places in all of New York and even in the world. It is combination of genuinely kind service, lively yet intimate atmosphere, reasonable top dollar prices, and of course, delicious food. On the few times I went to Mas, the restaurant has never disappointed. The whole package really is there, if you give it an honest chance. I've definitely put this restaurant on my list of most memorable and delicious...(Also, if you do want to give it a try, don't pass up on any of the meat entrees--they've def. nailed down technique!)

love this place!
We have been to Mas 5 times now, this past weekend was the best dinner we've enjoyed in NYC in a very long time. We were only able to get a 6:00 res, but we did not leave until 9:00. We brought family for their anniversary and Mas did not disappoint...... The food and wine was outstanding. The people working at Mas are really nice people and excellent at what they do. Great Place.......

can a restaurant be good yet bad?
went to mas for my wedding anniversary. the place is lovely, however, the tables are so close together that it lost all its intimacy for us. my husband and i felt we couldn't have a conversation because both couples on either side of us could hear every word even while we were whispering. the staff was unbelievably excellent and the wine was fabulous. the food was absolutely delicious, however, the portions were so small, it was ridiculous. we were absolutely starving when we left and had to stop to get food on our way home. considering the prices, i found that to be unacceptable. i understand the cache of serving small portions, but this was crazy. i would only recommend dining here if you eat first. so sad.

Over the top
Extraoridnaire, superbe, a reverence for fish, each prepared and presented to celebrate its unique character. Zucchini in tiny al dente portions the size of pasta, a complement to the monk fish. Atlantic char with a hushpuppy, yes, a hushpuppy, that I couldn't help eating in one luscious bite. Lamb ravioli, succulent and accompanied by the waitress's choice of wine, an immense Gigondas. What a pairing. Each bite of each appetizer presents the essence of the thing you've ordered and more, countermelodies that enhance the flavor and contributes to the whole. You could spend a lot more for a lot less. Service is a joy.

what a rip off
we wanted to eat early with friends - 7pm. we got out of there at 11pm. hungry and broke. the place is much ado about not much. in fact they should call it 'not mas'. the food is awfully tasty but the portions are so small, like a joke from a cartoon. and it takes forever to get your food. forever. advice: stock up on the bread when they offer it.

You've got to be kidding me
I lived in New York for about 10 years and I have been going to every single restaurant from the very fancy ones to the China town joint on Canal Street. Well, never I felt leaving the restaurant with the feeling of having paid too much. This is how i felt last night after leaving Mas. I don't mind paying top dollar for an exceptional meal, but yesterday I had probably the worst food experience of my life. The place is very well decorated and the service is spot on. But the food is mediocre at the very best. I don't usually judge a restaurant by the first time, because i know (and I'm in this business myself) that it could happen to have a NO-night.. but when you walk away with a $250 bill in your wallet, for 2 people with 3 glasses of wine, one appetizer (the other wasn't edible. how sweet it was) and 2 mains, the chances of that happening should be close to zero.
