Fantastic spot in Chelsea
I don't know where the people who gave this restaurant bad reviews went, but I go to Markt frequently, and it's fantastic. the portions are actually perfect, in fact I usually have leftovers. The fries are awesome, the drinks fantastic, the mussels and steaks wonderful. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I don't think it's fair to rate a place when you go there with a large party.

If you love Belgian beer, go to Markt!!!
This is one of my favorite places to go! Well I liked the location when it was downtown better but still awesome! I mainly come here for the beer because I am a huge Belgian beer fan! They are all great and the bartenders are friendly. The only food I have really had there were the frites and they were very good. Highly recommend!

Fun place, good food
True, it can be very crowded at Markt during peak times, but still this is a fun, casual place that really makes you feel like you are in a European brasserie. And they serve the absolute best moules-frites to be had in New York and their beef stew is soooo delicious. The beer [select]ion is great, too. I've been there two or three times in the past six months and the last time I went the host recognized me and greeted me warmly. I think that's niceand rare in New York.

Not recommended
The servings are super small! The food is nothing special. Pretty boring actually. The tables are on top of each other. Would never go back.

Good food, nice ambiance, avg. service
Service was average, and the place was crowded. However, the kriek beer sauce chicken, mussels and alcohol selection were great.

Do not even bother
I booked a large table for lunch (15 of my co-workers and my boss wanted to celebrate a "win" that we had spent a lot of energy and late nights). They told me they could accommodate us but when we got there they were scrambling to shove tables together and it took over 20 minutes to get everything together, set the table and seat us. The restaurant was pretty crowded and understaffed. It took another 20 minutes to all get our beverages and place our orders for appetizers. The 1st course took another 20 minutes and not everyone's food came out at the same time. At this point it had been hour since we walked in, my wine and water glass were bone dry and I had only 3 bites of someone's "fishy" calamari. I was starving when the main course finally arrived another 20 minutes later but none of us were impressed with the overcooked steak, soggy french fries, "fishy" lobster and other "food" they served us. Through the entire experience the wait stuff was neglectful if not rude and not the least bit apologetic. And to add insult to injury we were slapped with an automatic 20% gratuity because of our large party. Trust me if you want to celebrate something do NOT do it here, especially if your boss is sitting next to you

Rude service
My husband and I were frequent customers of Markt at the former location and loved it there! Upon returning to the new location we were very disappointed! When being seated for dinner, the hostess asked if the drinks we were holding were paid for! It felt as if we were being accused. The customer should be held in the same regard the restaurant wants to be seen. We will never return! Also, the mussels were just fair....
