    Great food not service

As long as you don't mind slow service (and rude hostesses) this place has some great food options.

    Love this place!

Markt is great from the moment you walk through the door. This restaurant has the nicest, most enthusiastic host on the planet! The food is excellent. The burger is juicy, the steak sandwich with fried onions is out of this world, the mussels are perfect and the french fries are golden and delicious. THe only downside is the new location. The old location was HUGE open and beautiful. the new place is small and cramped.

    Pleasantly Surprised!

I went to Markt last week with my boyfriend for dinner. When he suggested the place I decided to check out reviews on line, most of them were disappointing. We decided to go anyway and I was so glad we did. Having experienced Belgian cuisine before I thought the food was spot on. Our server, Jerry, was delightful and very attentive. We didn't have to wait long for our food and everything was great. The entire staff was quite polite. I would definitely dine there again, I hear they have an excellent brunch.

    Markt is pretty cool

I find an excuse to go hang out at Markt maybe once every couple months. It's generally my backup choice for a Friday night spot. The thing is that their beer menu is so spectacular and comprehensive, it's reasonable to just want to go there to have some beer. But the bar is only like 12 feet long, and on any given night after 8pm there are 40+ wall street types milling about. They won't let you sit at a table unless you're ordering food, so I've gotten roped into buying food I didn't really want just because I didn't want to stand around. And generally I find that the other patrons of the place are pretty unpleasant. There seems to be a split with the staff, too - the waiters are rude and dopey and don't know anything about the beer that is Markt's main selling point, but the bartenders are all sweethearts and know everything about beer and love talking about it and teaching you and helping you figure out what you want. The food is insane... I can't eat seafood so half of it is off limits to me but the non-seafood is great. Extremely overpriced, but great, and good portions. For some reason the french fries are particularly good. So yeah in general I'd say go to Markt, but get there early, sit at the bar and order your food at the bar... skip the table and the nasty waiters.

    disappointing

For lunch I had a hamburger that was overdone and frites that were slightly soggy. The service was very good, but the quality of the food wasn't what I was expecting.

    Great Atmosphere, Lousy Service

My friends and I had dinner here recently and were pleased with the atmosphere of the place upon walking through the doors. Unfortunately the second our tall, slim, brown-haired male waiter with a receding hairline approached our table ... everything went downhill. We asked for beer recommendations and with an attitude as if we were inconveniencing him by asking, gave us lazy uneducated responses. Sadly the poor guy didn't realize I was testing him as one of my best friends is actually a beer sommelier in the city! He barely came by our table to check up on us and we found ourselves acting as if we were in the pits on Wall Street, throwing our hands up in the air contantly to gain his attention for things like water and yes ... even to place our orders. We were not impressed with the food and being such a seafood heavy restaurant, you'd think the quality would be top notch - WRONG. Our hopes were shattered as pathetic minature dehydrated mussels arrived to the table and were placed in front of us. Disappointed to say the least ... will probably not be making a second trip back. Service Tip: Please don't hire servers that seem to hate what they do and can't stand interacting with other human beings.
