I had the pleasure of going to a different kind of restaurant for me. My friends and myself all had a blast. The 8 of us have never had a good time as we did on this occassion. We were there for 6 hours eating and drinking. The bartenders were great. The servers were at their best. The food was just incredible. Everyone has to go there for the atmosphere, and to just have a great time. I have been there 6 times in the last 3 months, and the food and service just gets better.

Poor service. My wife and I decided to have a small post-city hall wedding lunch at Markt and it was an unpleasant experience. 1. We arrived before the lunch rush but received our food 50 minutes after we arrived. Even worse, at leat 25 people who arrived after us were served first. 2. We asked the waiter for some milk for my 16 month old niece which never arrived. When we asked again the waiter snapped at my sister-in-law. 3. We waited 15 minutes after finishing lunch to order dessert and another 20 minutes before our dessert arrived. Without the coffee we ordered. The waiter claimed that there was no coffee guy. However, we saw others in the restaurant get a table full of coffee from the same waiter. We have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have eaten at Markt a couple of times. This will definitely be our last. However, if you like smug service, self-important stockbrocker types, and mediocre food, Markt is the place for you.

The food was fabulous, very European, and this is a great place to go with friends. It would be a little loud for a dinner date, but great for drinks as well as dinner in a group. Service was good.

Upon my recent 3d visit to Markt, I found the quality of the food to have dwindled, and the service abysmal. Our waitress obtrusively grabbed my friend's tissue-wrapped vitamins off the table to throw them away as they spilled across the table. She neglected to tell us the specials, and when asked, forgot what they were mid-sentence and had to return to the kitchen for a "reminder". She was also impossible to flag down for a beverage refill, or the check, for that matter. Plus, the tomato soup I started with was decent-to-poor, and my entree cod was lackluster and disjointed at best. Go for drinks; stick w/ a good Belgian beer.

The food is great at Markt, but unfortunately, but our waiter the night we were there acted as if he was doing us a favor by serving us.

With all the restaurants that have appeared in the meat packing district over the last few years, Markt is still the best thing going in that neighborhood. We've been going there for years now and its still our favorite. They always recognize us when we come in and we always feel very comfortable! The food is great, try the mussels ("best in the city"). And if you like beer, they've got some of the best in the world. Really!

I discovered Markt on New Year's Day with my boyfriend and a couple friends. The space was really great - although the tables were close together, the ceilings were high, so it didn't feel too crowded. The atmosphere was really that of your typical European bistro - bustling and busy, but also somehow relaxed and comfortable. I could see myself sitting in there with a friend for hours. The staff were friendly and helpful, giving suggestions on their delicious desserts (I recommend the Dame Blanche!). It was really great to find an authentic piece of Europe in the ultra-trendy meat-packing district. And the food was great! Excellent fries!
