I have to admit, after reading previous reviews, I was VERY hesitant about this invitation to dine at Markt while visiting NYC. I arrived early on a Saturday evening and made an "in person" reservation for 7pm for three ---- @ 6:30pm.... It was accommodated and from that point forward EVERYTHING was simply first class. My guests and I were seated upon their arrival at 7pm, and in the midst of a crowded and happily noisy venue, we were treated like singular guests. The food was wonderful, from salads to entrees, with our desserts standing out over the rest. I have already sent recommendations for Markt to everyone I know. Bon Apetite!

My friends and I enjoyed our dinner. We checked in at 6:30 and the maitre 'd said we could have a table at 7 PM but they needed it again at 8:30, which was fine with us. The place was full at 7 when we got there. The service was prompt at all times - bread appeared immediately, and we got our drink orders in quickly as well. The busboys were very attentive. My friend's cold duck salad appeared quickyl and he was pleased with it. I had a chicken "stew" in a light cream souace with vegetables - hot and very flavorful. My boyfriend had the tomatos stuffed with shrimp salad, and he liked it as well. Our desserts were also unique - I had a chocalate "bomb" and my friend had the lemon tartlett with a beer sorbet. The desserts plates were highly decorated with different dessert sauces - pretty enough to take pictures of. Service was extremely promot throughout - maybe because they wanted the talbe. My only complaint was that my coffee (presented in a french press) could have been hotter. Other than that, it was a fine experience!

The food is fine at Markt, but equally good fare and much better service can (and should) be had at one of a zillion other local spots. When your service makes even Pastis seem like an attitude-free zone, you know you need an adjustment. Slow, inattentive staff each time I've been, whether for lunch or dinner, regardless of how crowded they are. One server had the nerve to be rude, then changed his tune when he realized we were a table of "VIP"s (his unseemly term, not ours). Suddenly, we were offered desserts and drinks on the house when all we wanted was decent service in the first place. How tacky and fitting for the meatpacking district.

Summarize 'Markt'? A professional service, very good food, great atmosphere and fantastic beers. You definitely should try the 'Delirium Tremens', one of the stronger beers. We will be going back for sure.

A friend and I went to Markt for the first time last Monday... we were pleasantly surprised by the awesome food (I had the goat cheese salad and rock shrimp with toast tips) and good beer. Service was spotty, but then again... we were taking our time and lingered a while. Awesome location, and I still dream about the food... I will definitely be coming back.

We went here for a friend's birthday, and upon arriving, gave the name of the party. The host acted perturbed that we came to patronize the restaurant. so sorry! The server was pleasant, but it was too little, too late. It was already made clear that we weren't going to be treated as well as one should expect for paying these prices. The food ranged from good (grey shrimp appetizer) to disappointing (mussels with thyme and coconut milk, and mussels with garlic and cream). Good beer selection, good desserts, but neither good enough to warrant a return for us.

Definitely plenty of seating for some quiet conversation or have a seat outside for some good ol NYC people watching. One can make it the be the scene or be seen place. But if you want to keep it lowkey- you can do that too. Food was satisfactory- the menu is extensive and definitely something for everyone. I had the moules natural - mussels were good perfectly seasoned and you can taste the sea in the pot - the frites were okay - I think it could've been better felt like diner fries. My friend had the waffles- looked dry and boring. Service was satisfactory - the waiter didn't bother us too much and didn't go out of his way to be friendly either.
