I discovered their great Grandma's pizza squares which are terrific. Cheese is thinner and less overwhelming, so taste more of the crisp crust and fresh tomato, and fresh basil. It may have less calories and fat, because less cheese. Really delicious.

Mariella's is the best pizza place in the east 70s/60s. Although... this is real pizza! Meaning greasy and cheesy. So many people in our annoying neighborhood don't like it. But I'd put it as top 10 (maybe 5) pizza places in nyc.

Run by a bunch of italian guys they make some great no-frills down-to-earth nyc/italian food. Their pizza is above par, their calzones are simple (no spice inside) and baked great, their rolls similarly spartan. My favorite there is the baked ziti.. I'm no italian, but of the ziti I've had, this one's the best.
