Gratuity
On November11,2009 I had lunch at Maria Pia's with two friends. Our bill came to around $78.00. We left a $12.00 gratuity. As we were leaving thebrestaurant, one of your employees stopped us and demande d an additional $5.oo. Needless to say we were embarrassed. No where on the menu was it stated that a certain dollar or percentage gratuity was expected. The foode was good, but not outstanding. We were each served one thin slice of bread and had to reequest another slice. Maria Pia does not deserve a Zagot rating.

Needs improvement
Walked in early for a 5:30 reservation and was told to wait at the bar, even though the place was empty and my friends were a couple of minutes away. When I asked where the ladies room was, the hostess turned her back. The bartender smiled and pointed me toward the back. When I returned, the bartender told me to sit anywhere. The waiter first removed the chair we had our bags on (we were three at a table for four), then brought it back when I complained. Food was only o.k., the mushroom taglietelle was the hit at the table. Desserts were unspectacular. Maria Pia used to be better. The biggest letdown is the service. I'd rather spend my money were I'm treated as a guest. For the few dollars more, next time I'll choose ViceVersa. Serves me right for trying to save a couple of dollars.

Will never return
I went here with some out of town guests following a show. The food was good and the waiter was very friendly. Only one hour after being seated and 45 seconds after paying our bill, the manager asked us to leave because he needed the table. I was disgusted and embarrassed in front of my guests. Will NEVER return!

Disappointing
Upon entering and being greeted by a friendly staff we were invited to sit wherever we wished. We sat in front but immediately had to move due to the musty smell emanating from somewhere (grates in floor?). The appetizers were delicious, especially the grilled octopus, but they were the highlights of the evening. The waiter brought out my dinner, a special chioppino with the seafood overcooked, and my wife's tortellini. Unfortunately she ordered the goat cheese ravioli. She was asked if she wanted to return it but since mine was out and we were on a schedule she said no. Big mistake. Chewy and doughy. Dessert also being a letdown sealed it that we would never come here again.

Great meal!
We had a meal for two on FEb 6, 2009 and it was such a nice meal I had to write my first review. We had the veal and the shrimp/scallop on the skewer, and it was excellent. Great service and a really nice atmosphere. We are going back.

Great place
Went for dinner after seeing " Momma Mia "and had no reservations on Sat about 5:00 PM, they were able to seat us immediately but mentioned we were time limited unless we sat at the bar. At first we took table then quickly decided on the bar as not to be rushed, ended up a great choice. Service was great and food the tops both in flavor and quantity. My girls family owns restaurants and was totally impressed. We will definitely return but suggest making reservations, loved sitting at bar as well.

Solid choice for pre-theatre
If you are looking for a good, inexpensive restaurant for pre-theatre dining, this is a great choice. There is a large selection of pasta which I think is a smart choice here. No entree is over $20. The atmosphere is simple and clean. The food is very tasty. This is an obvious choice for solid Italian fare.
