Just go! You'll love it!
This is a charming authentic Russian restaurant serving excellent cuisine. The waitstaff is extremely helpful with menu choices and simply could not be nicer or go out of their way more to make sure you have everything you need. Just go! You'll love it!

What a gem!
I'm a Russian Native who has recently been to Moscow and St. Petersburg and I think Mari Vanna is one of the best Russian restaurants I have ever been to. The authenticity, quality and freshness of the food just made the whole experience superb! I cannot wait to return and try everything on the menu….. and highly recommend this place to any foodie, Russian or not!

overall good, but something very bad
Great decor, good music, most food very good, BUT one bottle (750ml) of drinking water is $12. It's crazy. It's 1000%

(in my opinion) best Russian restaurant in NYC!
My family and I split our time between Moscow, Russia and nyc. Mari Vanna's nyc restaurant is a quite recent discovery for us but it quickly became our go to place for all our special occasions (including just being too lazy to cook dinner) ;) I actually read all the comments and reviews on menu pages and lack of any really negative reviews made me curious. My curiosity was satisfied and we were not disappointed. Mari Vanna's new management did an excellent job turning this restaurant (in my opinion) into best Russian restaurant in NYC! Overall I would say trust the 'user ratings' they are right on point. While the prices are not low they are exactly what you would expect for the quality of food and excellence in service and atmosphere that you get here. We can not wait to go back there for my dad's birthday!

Worth the splurge
My husband and I made lunch reservations here after reading the stellar review in the New Yorker and absolutely loved it. First of all, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was Russian and explained the food to us, and also made recommendations. The restaurant itself is beautiful - you feel as though you're eating in the dining room of an old, fancy house. The decor has an eclectic, romantic feel to it. Most of all, though, we were impressed by the food. We split the carrot cakes and a herring salad to start. Both were DELICIOUS, especially the herring salad. We then split the pelmeni, which are veal dumplings; again, so delicious. The portions were large and the food itself was pretty rich so we took home leftovers. I recommend this place to all of my friends and will be back. If you want to spend a little less, go for lunch and split dishes, like we did. It wasn't a cheap lunch, but it was beyond worth it.
