Greta food, bad service
My husband and I went to this restaurant on a Saturday night. The food was very very good- we enjoyed everythign we ate. However, tThe service was TERRIBLE. We looked at our watches and from when we sat down it took us: 45 minutes to get bread for the table 1 hour to get our appetizers 90 minutes to get our entrees. Our waitress didn't even really apologize and did nothing to mitigate our frustration (no comp'd dessert, drink, etc). Definitely not worth it on a busy night.

A must try!
I took my girlfriend here last night for her birthday on a recommendation from a friend. This was one of the better meals I've had in the 2 plus years I've lived in NYC. We had a yellowtail tartare appetizer which was delicious, then moved on to a roasted chicken dish for two that was quite simply the best chicken I've ever tasted. We had some great wines and finished with a sorbet combination dessert. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive and to top the night off, Marc Forgione came to visit us at our table to make sure that we enjoyed our dining experience. Very cool! Check this place out, you will not be disappointed!

Great find
Had our second dinner at forge last week and I have to say I love the menu changes made since our last visit. Overall a fantastic experience. Server was extremely friendly and knowledgable of menu from front to back. Really refreshing experience. Cant wait to return.

Subpar service and poor attitude
I can't comment on the food, as we didn't stay to eat. We arrived 5-10 mins late for an 8.30pm booking and were told our table would be ready shortly. We were happy to have a drink at the bar, but after an hour plus wait, and several inquiries with the maitre'd, we were still not seated. Most disappointing was the arrogant attitude of the greeting staff and the manager, and the lack of an apology from anyone. We weren't alone in our frustrations, others at the bar were experiencing similar issues. It is understandable that a new and increasingly busy restaurant can experience delays. However, it was the attitude of the staff that was the real problem and the reason we will never return.

Forging Ahead
Among the burgeoning masses of locavore/seasonal restaurants, I'd rank this one up towards the top. I, too, found the scarcity of vegetable offerings nothing but just plain weird, given the restaurant's tact. That said, upon request, they mustered up a nice little concoction of tasty roasted corn and haricots verts- but one should not have to ask. Also, the mixed green salad is nothing but lettuce on a plate. I was straining to sense a hint of dressing anywhere, with my taste buds or by scrutinizing the plate, but none was found. That's a pretty lame salad. The octopus starter is delcious, if not slightly disjointed (could use more of the puree to pull everything together). Scallops main was lovely, nice meaty scallops and a yummy corn risotto below. Again, where are the greens/oranges/reds, etc.? There was but a sprinkly of sorrel. Veal with sweetbreads was commensurately tasty.. a good dish for a brisk autumn night. The decor is decidedly more appropriate for the impending cool season. I can't imagine it very welcoming in the heat of summer, what with all that black and cozy lighting and rustic, heavy woods. We finished up with the apple pie, which was a nice enough little pie, but nothing to write home about (or write here about.) We should have opted for the much more interesting sounding brownie and marshmallow meringue sweet. (next time?) Oh, yes. And the floor manager NEEDS to tuck in his shirt. It was too big to begin with, and then flowed sloppily around him as he drifted throught the dining room. Charming guy, but tuck that sucker in.
