I loved most of the food I had. The po'boy was barely a po'boy but the crawfish boil, crawfish cheese stuffed bread and the desserts were delicious. The server was harried but nice until the end when the desserts barely hit the table and they were shoving the check at us telling us they needed the table. We had ordered a round of drinks to go with dessert but were told we couldn't get them. I've waited tables in some crazy busy places and I would never ever do something like that. Esp to people who spent a substantial amount of money. They are relocating so hopefully they have more space so they don't have to kick patrons out for having the nerve of trying to give them more money.

1.The music is weird 2.Food is awful, they say the seafood is flown in from Lousiana. The Crabcakes taste like they mix in sweaty socks. 3.There is no air circulation 4.The only thing pleasant is the bottled sauces 5.Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Awful awful food quality

Walking along 6th we came upon Mara's Homemade and checked out the menu. N'awlins style sounded good so in we went. Very casual place with friendly casual waitstaff. The food was awesome. Crawfish Cheesecake was like quiche and was the best thing we had. The Texas Chili was a very close 2nd. Mac & Cheese was good and as a $8 "side dish" was a very nice portion. Wife didn't think the corn bread was as good as it should have been but it was ok enough. Booze prices were on the high side ($12 hurricane and $8 for a pint of Turbodog). The food was really tasty. Great comfort food. So glad we found this place and we'll be back.

The crawfish we had were good and super spicy, and the crawfish cheesecake was addicting if you like cheesy, buttery dishes. What was irritating was the upsell. We ordered the deluxe -- for $5 they throw in corn and mushrooms. Fine. They asked if we wanted an artichoke too, with no mention of the price. It was another $8. $13 for veggies thrown into the boil seems like a rip off.

We were a large party with a two hour reservation, and the consistently rude staff kept demanding that we place our orders, brought appetizers out with entrees for the same person, didn't bother to ask about drink refills, told us to sit at the end of the large table (so they could use the other tables if some of our party didn't show up) and told us we had to be out by 7:30 p.m. for another party, at which time they promptly got the check. Great food, but I would never go back again because the servers were so rude. Honey you are lucky that service was automatically included for large parties, because you shouldn't have gotten a dime. Mara's, fix your service, or close up shop.

I have been living here in the neighborhood for over 16 years. I first went to Mara's homemade a few days after it opened. At the beginning, it was great to have an authentic style Cajun/BBQ restaurant so near. The food was and I think remains pretty good. The oysters were fresh, the barbecue slow-cooked nicely, the Cajun dishes prepared well. My problem with this place is simple: MANAGEMENT. The husband and wife who own and operate the place are so incredible rude that they succeeded in driving me away, a once satisfied customer. At first they delivered..with a 10$ minimum. Then a 20$ minimum..and then when 'they have someone around who can do that..'. Ok, so then do NOT advertise delivery if you do not really offer it. Then when I started to eat in and/or pick up the food, I would be told to come in 20 minutes or 30 minutes but upon arrival would be told that I would 'just have to wait because we are busy..' I would wait 10 15 even 30 additional minutes for a phone in pick up order in which I was told to come at a certain time. A few times the couple and their kids have literally scowled at me while my friends and I waited for a table...they seemed stressed out and totally overwhelmed by the daily grind of running a restaurant; which begs the question: can't they afford to hire help if they are so busy? Bottom line is that they lost a loyal customer and no patron of an eating establishment should have to tolerate such rude treatment.
