lunch buffet discontinued
... at least on W 57th St - - was a big part of the Mangia value ... obviously a casualty of these economic times

Great antipasto bar upstairs!
Mangia is more known for the quick lunch downstairs, but upstairs is a full-service sit-down restaurant with a menu with a variety of pastas and an all-you-can-eat antipasto bar that you can have as your lunch. I highly recommend the antipasto bar! The antipasto bar changes, but always includes lots of vegetarian/vegan options in the antipasto bar, including roasted and grilled veggies like gourmet mushrooms, asparagus, brussel sprouts, eggplant and zucchini. The bread basket with a variety of breads (breadsticks, focaccia, and fresh Italian bread) brought to the table rounds out the meal. Service is polite and attentive, and the atmosphere upstairs is very nice - sleek and contemporary. Of course, you'll pay more upstairs, but it's a much more relaxed lunch option and if you get the antipasto bar, you can go back and have as much as you like of your favorites!

I love Mangia
For 7 years I worked near 57th Street and went to Mangia consistently for lunch (I have never eaten in the restaurant upstairs though). The take out/eat in part is all about the food. It is excellent! A tremendous amount of variety every day and only the freshest and most creative ingredients and preparations. I almost always choose items from the "salad bar" which is unlike any other salad bar I have ever seen. Now that I no longer work near a Mangia I miss it desperately.

Good sandwiches, bad salad
Sandwiches such as the Tuna with dill is excellent. So are the mozarella and tomato sandwiches. I definitely do not recommend the Southern Comfort salad. It was awful. The blue cheese dressing was really liquidy 'white water' that looked like white out. This restaurant needs to get a clue if it's going to continue serving dressing like this!

Awesome
Mangia is one of the best fast places to eat in manhattan. Amazing, fresh food, and you get to pick what you want. Fresh, chic, and delicious.

On the go gourmet
Great place to go grab a quick sandwich or some savory salads and entrees. Don't go if you want a quiet meal or time. The bustling atmosphere puts you in a rush to get out or you'll get stares from people waiting for a seat. The salad bar tends to be on the salty side. But overall they have a great variety of tofu selections to hummus, salmon, chicken , and veggies. If you want to pay the extra $$ then opt for their entress. You can't beat their sandwiches morning or afternoon.

Such a good sandwich!
I had Mangia for the first time yesterday and hearing rave reviews from everyone who had been there. Although it's on the pricy side (what isn't in this city?), it was well worth it. I HIGHLY recommend the Basil Parmesan Chicken Salad Sandwich on a French Baguette. It was *delicious*! I can't stop thinking about it. The chicken was so fresh and the dressing is just amazing. Pay the extra buck or two - you won't regret it!
