The poorest sushi restaurant
If you like overpriced fake sushi, you will love it. The service is the only good thing about this restaurant, but everything else is an insult to Japanese cuisine. The fact that they incorporated and mix Dominican food with Japanese is not a bad idea, but WHAT HAPPENED WITH JAPANESE PLATES?

Service is Poor, Good Food
I love the idea that Mama Sushi is built on and you have to go in there knowing that no this is not a real sushi restaurant. Like most uptown restaurants the service is poor but the food is yummy. Especially those taquitos. I could have those all day and I look forward to going their again.

Caribbean Nippon/Japan!!
The plates were delicious! It is a bit pricey I must say...but the chef is ingenious when incorporating caribbean flavors and typical food themes (from DR) with asian-japanese sushi! The restaurant's menu is a beautiful reflection of what the neighborhood is looking for: to try sushi while also having the option of tasting home comforts (aka dominican food) a la japanese! The concept in ingenious! Reminds me of the fusion that Brazilian Sushi place downtown was going for...can't remember the name. The names i saw of the sushi plates were the names of some of the beautiful cities in DR, samana...etc. Looks like, they're trying to capture the "flavors" that represent the cities featured in the sushi plates while giving people a taste of Japan! If you stroll through the neighborhood you'll find that the majority of the people in the neighborhood are dominican and the restaurant owners are also dominican so the theme of the restaurant is caribbean meets Sushi!! not a very hard concept and it comes across very well in the dishes. The folks giving these sub-par critiques are not familiar with caribbean food, namely Dominican food and culture So- like trying new things- their palettes are not adjusted! (remember the first time you tried korean food?) if you'd read the menu and ask questions you'd learn a few things...). Also, historically there are japanese neighborhoods in various cities in the DR-- I wonder if they gained inspiration from their fusion cuisine as well? Must say, the restaurant needs to fine-tune their delivery service but heck, they just opened up and are getting used to working with a small staff!! Best of luck Mamasushi!

The Japanese Cringe!
1. This is not a sushi/Japanese restaurant. It's hard to respect a "sushi" restaurant that serves bacon in its rolls. 2. It's not even good at faking it. They're missing some sushi essentials on the menu...How about some rolls for vegetarians? What about negamaki? 3. It's embarrassing really. Rolls named after Machu Picchu that aren't even spelled correctly. 4. Overpriced. This place is a faux sushi restaurant with silly prices that don't reflect the food. They should pay you to eat in this ridiculously contrived restaurant. 5. Why do restaurants insist on making everything Spanish themed in this neighborhood? Sushi is Japanese! EIther do it right or don't do it at all.

Not good
Delivery took almost an hour and it was not worth the wait. The sushi was one on top of the other as if thrown in a bowl. While it was edible, it was a big step down from supermarket sushi but with restaurant prices.

Left Bad taste in my mouth
My boyfriend and me be wanting to try this place since when moved here two months ago. We stop by one night ( like around 10:30pm) Got a very small table outside and waited ins for a menu. Thinking it just might be busy ....I didn't worry. Being Locate when it is ... the street a packed and noisy. It took forEVER for the drinks to come out .... and the food. The food was ok. At best. Not Really Sushi. This was a sushi meet spanish. We got a roll with sweet plantains. WTF? I will say it was good but everything else was just bad. In the end it cost us ( two people ) $90. In the end all i can say is Disappointing.

Mama Sushi
It's not real Japanese sushi. They are catering to people that don't really eat sushi but would like to say the eat sushi. The food is decent but overpriced. The service is extremely slow and they need more English speaking employees (not much to ask since we are in the U.S. ). I have gone a few times and will go back only because it is the only sushi place within walking distance to where I live.
