Ok...if you're not from the south.

Just moved here from the south. Got the green beans, sweet potatoes, and the mac n cheese. Waaaay too healthy to be southern. The mac n cheese was the best. Otherwise I'd say this was "ok." BIG negative: they serve NO bread! All in all, it was ok. Probably wouldn't eat here again.

Give me another dollop of that!

Initially I was somewhat put off by the simple presentation on the food at Mama's, its laid out in several trays on a countertop and left at room temperature. You then point to whatever you want and the personel (usually some 18-20something year-old hipster) digs in and slams down a dollop of what youve asked for with a gusto like I've never seen. However, as soon as I started to chow down on the spinach or better yet the mac&cheese, all I could think of was getting my next fix. If the presentantion gets it to taste like that, well then give me another dollop!

    Awesome Food

Mama's is great. If you get takeout you will definitely have leftovers. Homestyle cooking at its finest.

    Takeout review

I ordered takeout from Mama's after reading the great reviews, but the food quality was pretty low. The food was either too salty (meat loaf) or too bland (fried chicken), too cooked (carrots) or too undercooked (beans). Maybe they had a chef in training today.

    Always Tasty

I've had many good Mama's experiences. The food is delicious, especially the grilled chicken, mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes.Save room for dessert--the cobbler is f'in GREAT. Tasty, home-cooked meals WOO.

    Best Mashed Potatoes, Bar None

I've been a fan of Mama's for three years now and they never disappoint. The mashed potatoes and green beans are so good I haven't gotten around to trying anything else. The portions are generous enough to make two meals, so the prices are pretty darn good. My only regret is that the Mama's on Sullivan St. closed. Luckily, they deliver, so I can still get a Mama's fix. Thank God, cause I'm not sure I could live without it... Oh, and I've always found the service to be great.

    Nothing Beats Mama's

I adore Mama's! I have never been unsatisfied with their food. The salad is great, the mac and cheese is wonderful, the green beans are delish, the chinese greens are tasty, and the mashed potatoes are unbeatable. The chicken is decent, but the salmon is my personal favorite. Such great comfort food and always hits the spot! Plus you can save some for later because the portion sizes are so huge. I usually get delivery (and have accepted that it's not so fast), but the few times I've eaten there the staff has been nice - although I felt a little bad because there aren't many places to sit and people were waiting to sit and eat. And cheap, too: 2 meals in one for $12.00 - you can't beat that!
