Mama, what happened?
Unfortunately, Mama Mexico is no longer what it used to be. I just wanted to echo the previous posting regarding the disappointing new menu. It is at best half as long as the old menu in what seems like an attempt to force the pricier dishes. If you like your memories of Mama Mexico, don’t go back and keep it that way.

Mama - what happened??
We've been going to Mama's for years and have always had good food and drinks. While I still love their guacamole, the rest of the menu has gone downhill. Sometime around this past summer they cut the menu by half at least. The new menu lacks all of the interesting variety that they used to have and is now mostly generic that you’d expect to see in some tourist trap by Times Square: e.g. chicken fajitas, burritos, and a few soft shell tacos. Not sure if it was some sort of cost cutting measure or that they are trying to compete with Taco Bell. Either way, it’s unfortunate. To make matters worse (while service was always oddly timed) we’ve had a poor experience with our waiter the last few times: super slow, forgetting part of our order, and generally ignoring us. I don’t want to give up on them but I think it might be time to find another Mexican place in the neighborhood.

amazing!
Mexican is my fav type of food and I have been to many places. Mama Mexico is by far the best! So many choices and the food is stellar!! I love this place!

Well???
After some very fine Mexican food in Chicago, I guess I'm spoiled but really folks, this is NYC so, well. . . The service was wonderful but the food was mediocre and certainly over priced for the quality. Don't think I'll be going back again

Nice but nothing stellar.
Nice place. But not anything that is going to knock your socks off. Like a lot of more mainstream Latin places in the city I find that they are a bit too conservative with the way they flavor the food. Mexican cuisine is bold and has a lot of interesting flavors but you wouldn't know it eating the food served at Mama Mexico. It's plated well and the place is nice but the food is the most important thing at the end of the day and while the food here is certainly not bad it's certainly not awesome either. When I go to any somewhat decent restaurant in this city I want to be wowed, I want to be impressed. Moving on the atmosphere, it's okay but a bit cramped. The mariachi singers are a nice touch but can get annoying at times. Value is okay by NYC standards but drinks are a bit on the pricey side albeit very well made. I was very impressed by the bar menu, quite substantial and they make excellent drinks so considering that the prices aren't so bad. It's a shame the bar is so tiny and not really good for just coming over for drinks (you have to sit at a table). Service was very attentive, I came with a large group and the wait staff did a good job.

Its ok!
This was the best expirience. First time I went I was delighted! & all the times I go I always have the Mama Nachos. The service was alittle off. But the waiter kept coming to check on us. I ordered guacamole sauce and it was wayy to expensive! The food is good, but the price is too high!

ugh
My girlfriend went to Mama Mexico the Sunday of the final World cup game. It goes down as also one of the worst rip offs and meals we have ever had. Other than the menus having over 100 choices, all numbered (1 - 100) as if you were in a factory (which is exactly how the food tasted), other then us ordering one meal and them bringing out two "surprised", other than the brightly colored glowing, radioactive neon blue "Blueberry" margharita they brought me which was only tequilaa (because that's the only way you literally can get thr food down your throat), other than the outrageous bill and lastly .... other than the food which All I could imagine was "Kitchen Nightmare - Gordon please help them" as the food was literally inedible (the chicken, meat and duck).
