Mama Mexico (CLOSED)

This Mexican place is average and it wasn't full. There was more staff than customers. The live guacamole tutorial was delicious and fun to watch. It was also $11! The food was okay, the staff were friendly and fast, and seating arrangement was a bit crowded and all over the place.

I agree with the recent reviews; the place has gone downhill in terms of service and value, and the new, shortened menu is really disappointing as well. Bad, weak drinks and way overpriced menu. Will not go back again.

what we have here is a great place gone bad. half the menu. no drink menu. a sangria that was 98% fruit juice. entrees served before we had finished our appetizer. all entrees lacking flavor. had to ask for hot sauce, hoping to pick up some taste, but that was just hot vinegar. And the topper was the waitstaff asking to take my plate while I still had my fork in hand and eating. This use to be a great place. In the mood for Mexican food? Find any other but here.

So there with friends on a Monday night. Food is good and consistent for New York Mexican. The waiter was attentive and service overall quite good. I did not drink but my friends enjoyed theirs quite a bit. New to us was a mariachi band that played at deafening levels. We could not hear each other speak. The entire restaurant reverberated with noise given the hard surfaces. An otherwise good dinner was just ruined by loud music that left one just wanting to leave. 4 out of 4 of us are unlikely to go back if we see the band there again.

I took my mother to Mama Mexico early on a Saturday night. I hadn't been to Mama's in several years and was a bit worried after reading the previous reviews. But everything was great! The service was amazing. We didn't have to wait for anything. Water was always filled immediately. Margarita orders too. But it wasn't intrusive at all. The food was great. Guac was amazing, just like I remembered. The menu may be shorter, I don't know, but it still is enormous. We had a great time.

It may be possible to get good Mexican food in New York City, but you won't find it here. This place is more of a cliche than anything else, with its tacky decor and loud, obnoxious mariache players. The food is mediocre (except for the guacamole which was OK if you are into paying $15 for some mashed avocado and lemon juice) and very, very overpriced. It is difficult to understand how they manage to stay in business.

Ignored for 20 minutes after being seated. Food was mediocre at best.
